Almudena Cathedral

The Cathedral of Madrid is the Almudena Cathedral and it´s pretty modern if it´s compared with the rest of churches and buildings in Madrid. Built towards the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, it´s a tourist attraction which is visited daily by thousands of people from all over the world.   The Cathedral today finds itself where there used to be Madrid´s first ever mosque. Later it was built like a church with the name of Santa María de la Almudena. But it was in 1868 when the church that there is today was built, dedicated to the Virgin of Almudena. In the cathedral we can find a crypt where the photograph of the Virgin is, which dates from the 16th century. This virgin is very loved in the city because she´s the patron saint of the city.   After suffering many attacks during the World Wars, the cathedral was remodelled in a neoclassic style and the work was completed in 1993 and it received the blessing of the Pope John Paul II who visited the church in person. Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum

Temple of Debod and Plaza España

The Temple of Debod is an Egyptian temple situated in the city of Madrid. It was a gift from the old State of Egypt to the Spanish people for their help that they gave them in 1968 when UNESCO wanted to save the Nubian temples from destruction against the construction of the well in Asuán.   That´s how the Temple of Debod got to Madrid and it´s situated net to Parque del Oeste, very close to the Plaza de España. When it was installed in the city, it was attempted that it had the same cardinal location. Botín

Doria Pamphilj Gallery

The Doria Pamphilj Gallery is a large gallery full of private art collections that are housed in the Doria Pamphilj Palace in Rome. This museum was created with the idea of presenting its visitors an insight of what it would be like to live in a palace in the 18th cenury.   The building was reformed on various occasions but always to maintain its splendor that it had in its first moment and maintaining the original design and, for that reason, there are galleries that are sometimes closed to the public because they´re being restored and, also, because it´s still a private place that belongs to the family of Doria Pamphilj of Rome.   The museum is situated on the first floor of the beautiful and imposing Doria Pamphilj building that, in its oldest part, dates from 1435. You go in from the Via del Corso where you can also admire a convent of the 6th century. In 1601 another patio was added to the building and two covered wings. Subsequently, in the 18th century, Valvassori drew the façade that can be observed today and which is considered a work of art.   The Doria Pamphilj Gallery is a place with more than 400 works of art that can be enjoyed walking through its galleries.
