We’ve been very good during the Christmas holidays and we’ve certainly done our homework: thought about the winter holidays. One of the main attractions of the winter season is Ski Week. The perfect excuse to break away from the long boring winter at home. Fun times multiplied by 10 for the whole family. Kids love it as they need to play and move around, and this season of the year gives them few opportunities to do so. And that’s why winter holidays with the kids can be a healthy option and great fun.
When it comes to choosing the right destination for skiing with the youngest ones we need to take a few things into account. Most ski resorts include ski schools for children, day care centers, and special ski lifts granting access to extra wide slopes with special areas for the little ones to learn to ski in a safe and fun way. And meanwhile, mom and dad can enjoy some of the other slopes and work on their technique.
Below are our top destinations for skiing with the family this season.
-
Grandvalira, Andorra
Andorra may well be a tiny country, but its offer of ski slopes is extensive. Children under 6 years of age don’t have to pay for their ski pass, and there are many ski schools, day care centers, and circuits where they’ll be able to glide into a magical and different world.
-
Zillertal / St. Anton, Austria
Skiing in Zillertal with the family is a thing of joy, as the whole place has been thought out with families with children in mind. An adventure mountain with different fantasy worlds and day care centers are but some of the installations we can find.
There isn’t a single second of boredom for the little ones at St. Anton’s “Kikiclub”. Their animation team takes care of them at all times, even during meals and in the evenings. Fun in the snow and new friends from all over the globe.
-
South Tyrol
The classic ski resort of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in Northern Italy has countless facilities for children. Normally, the purchase of an adult ski pass includes a children’s ski pass, and it’s mandatory for the little ones to wear a helmet.
-
Beskydy Mountains, Czech Republic
Due to its location, the Czech Republic can be a very interesting destination for those who love skiing up North. Families can take advantage of various offers on ski passes, like for instance day passes from 20 euros, and family passes at even better prices. They have ski schools, ski carousels, and much more.
-
Leukerbad, Switzerland
The Swiss Tourism Federation has developed a certificate for ski holidays with children. All destinations with the Familien Willkommen sign are guaranteed to include many options for children. In Laax, for instance, you’ll find the Schneewunderland (Snow Wonderland) and several snow parks for the older ones.
When holidaying with children, it’s essential to choose accommodation suited for family life. A mountain apartment or chalet is the best option. Wet clothing can easily be washed and dried, and in the evening we can all rest and relax in the living room by the heat of the fire.
Which of these destinations appeals most to you for this winter’s ski holiday?
