Milencolin, the most famous punk-rock band of recent years, will give a concert on the 22nd of September at Apollo Hall, located in Nou de la Rambla 113.
People say that fans of Millencolin are divided into two groups: those who love their first period, which proposes a melodic hardcore, and those who prefer the second, which is more influenced by rock. An album produced between those two stages is the famous “Pennybridge Pioneers” (published in 2001), the fourth album by Millencolin and the one that positioned them as one of the best punk rock bands on the international scene, with songs like “Penguins & Polarbears”, “No Cigar” and “Fox”, hits they always play in each of their tours.
This album, released 10 years ago, deserves a tribute. This is one of the reasons why you should come to Apollo to see their second to none performance, one of the three confirmed in Spain. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster (22 Euros + expenses) and ticket (26 Euros).
Millencolin formed in the Swedish city of Orebro in 1992, when the leader Nikola Sarcevic (vocals and bass) and guitarist Mathias Farm left their previous band (the Seigmenn) and, together with Erik Ohlsson and Fredrik Larzon formed a band “skate-rock “called” Melancholy “after one of his favorite skateboarding tricks. But the “Melancholy” was a retro group, which did not conform perfectly to the street subculture trends that were their main inspiration. For this reason, later they decided to change their identity and name to Millencolin, a more contemporary less sad sound. When they published their first work, entitled “Same Old Tunes”, the majority of their members still were twenty, but the energy and security with which they learned to manage their project led them to win thousands of fans from the beginning of their career, and their fame was consolidated in the hardcore scene even more with their second album, “Life on a Plate.”
Everything happened very quickly and their lives went from anonymity to international fame in no time. Perhaps this is why, between 1997 and 1999 each member of the band decided to pursue personal projects and it was rumored among their fans that the Millencolin season had ended. But fortunately it wasn’t like that, and in 1999 the group got together again: it was time to create a new album. The product of this pause was their finest creation: “Pennybridge Pioneers”, a literal translation of their hometown. Then came “The Vans Warped Tour” (2000), “Home from Home” (2002), “Ray” and “Kingwood” (2005), and their last hit “Machine 15” published in 2008. After this one, Millencolin has slowed down their production, but remain on the stages in Europe and worldwide.
