After 52 years of representations around the world at last it´s the time to receive the most famous musical in the city of Valencia, ´The Sound of Music´. The Teatro Principal of Valencia is proud to be one of the first venues of this popular musical that has gathered awards since its first representation. The numbers say it all and in this case they´re spectacular: 6 Tony Awards, 5 Oscars, 2 Golden Globes and 45 million spectators in the 24 countries it´s been represented. It´s a juicy presentation card that without doubt will manage to fill the Teatro Principal de Valencia in all of its sessions from the 25th of February (opening date) until its last day, on the 1st of April.
The musical ´The Sound of Music´ takes us to the Austrian Alps during the beginning of the Second World War. The Navy Captain Von Trapp, a widower and father of seven children, has recently got engages with Baroness Schroeder. Maria is a novice who enters the service of the family to take care of the education and care of the children. With her arrival, everything changes in the Von Trapp family, with her naturalness and vitality revolutionising the life of the children, filling the house and their hearts with light and joy. The music and the songs sprinkle every moment of the story. However, with the German invasion, the family have to flee the country.
Silvia Luchetti and Carlos J. Benito are the two main actors who will play Captain Von Trapp and Maria and the director of this musical is Jaime Azpilicueta, who has the experience of having directed over 120 plays. The programmed tour of this musical is a bit different by not being premiered neither in Barcelona or Madrid. It will go to other cities before it reaches Barcelona and finishes in Madrid, cities such as Pamplona, Valladolid, Valencia, Zaragoza, Alicante and ten others.
The Teatro Principal de Valencia is one of the cultural cores of the most important scenic arts in the Mediterranean coast. It was inaugurated in 1832 and, initially it was decorated inside in a rococo style. Today, despite having suffered modifications due to adaptation to modernity and the comfort of the spectators, it still preserves the essence that makes this place an emblematic landmark that´s loved by the citizens of Valencia.
