A Night in Prague

After a busy day visiting monuments in the old town and walking for miles around the streets of Prague, this article will give you some ideas for an unforgettable night out in this beautiful town. Prague is not only known for its historical heritage but also for its modern and attractive nightlife.

Cruise on the Vltava River

Whether it’s only for a tour or for diner, a cruise on the Vltava River is a mandatory stop, the equivalent to a bateau-mouche tour of Paris. Moreover, you can go during the day or at night. If you choose to do it at night, it could be the perfect romantic evening.  In fact, the entire town lights up at night, making the monuments we’ve seen in the daytime look entirely different.

Tasting Specialties

You probably won’t find any specialties that are 100% Czech. In fact, they tend to be a combination of Czech, Hungarian, and Austrian; although the cuisine does have a reputation for being tasty, and portions abundant. Some examples of traditional dishes are all types of goulashes, soups, and everything with paprika.

Two addresses to take note of:

  • Lokál Dlouhá: A modern pub with Czech beer and traditional dishes, where it’s best to book a table for the evening.

Dlouhá 33, 110 00 Praha

  • U Parlamentu: A pub and restaurant popular with the locals, serving traditional Czech cuisine.

Going to a Pub

Visiting the Czech Republic and not drinking beer is simply unthinkable. Czech beer, as you’ve probably read on our previous post, is among the best beers in Europe.

As such, we recommend visiting a beer bar, or söröző in Czech, and enjoying a cold Pilsner Urquell, the local brew.

We recommend these two addresses:

  • The PUB Praha 1: A unique venue where each table includes a beer tap so you can help yourself directly, and a touchscreen to change the music playing in the pub.

Veleslavínova 3, 110 00 Praha 1

  • U Zlatého Tygra – “To the golden tiger”: Czech atmosphere guaranteed with many locals and few tourists. Moreover, you can order cold and hot dishes.

Husova 17, 110 00 Praha 1

Opera

Prague is also known for its opera houses. In fact, going to a live music concert, the opera, or the ballet is surprisingly affordable. So make the most of it and give in to one of these small pleasures!

There are 3 opera houses in Prague:

  • « prague national theatre »
  • « state opera »
  • « estates theatre »

You can check out the program on this website: http://www.czechopera.cz/

Clubs

For true party animals: Czech nights are known for being wild and Prague is rumored to be one of the cities with the best nightlife in Europe. Clubs open at 11pm and close at around 4 am.

3 essential venues depending on the style of music you like: Roxy (techno), Mecca (house), RadostFX (techno, rnb & hip hop).
