“Alegria” by Cirque du Soleil
If you are reading this text in Spanish, you must know that the name of this show is presented well, with the rotundity of the Spanish, “Alegría”, which in any language, anywhere in this wide world can express a deep feeling. Its creators (led by the fire-eater that one day decided to gather all street performers in a tent) put that name in honor of the Spanish word ” Alegría” . Word that not only expresses joy, happiness or satisfaction but also indicates, especially in southern Spain, “carefree”. ” Alegría ” becomes the manifestation of the fight spirit, of overcoming strength and victory of light over darkness.
This performance that was created in 1994 is still touring, and consists of the fight against the shadows, hidden symbolism of evil, a manifestation of heroes trying to overthrow a corrupt regime led by Fleur, a pathetic, egotistical and upstart character. Angels, Tamir, the small Tamir, the Bronx … halp the white singer to bring light to this dark new reality. Clowns, halfway between sides, nymphs, old birds will accompany the audience for this wonderful story about the quest for freedom and the battle against totalitarianism.
