Let´s start our tour around the best parks in the city:
Tašmajdan Park
Tašmajdan is a park that has an active and fresh atmosphere, perfect for practicing outdoor activities such as jogging, walking and even aerobics. There we can also find professional and recreational pools where you can enjoy taking a dip with your family. The park also houses the St. Mark´s Church and the church of the Holy Trinity, which give a certain spiritual atmosphere to the park. Don’t forget that during the summer Tašmajdan becomes a cultural outdoor stage where you can also enjoy an open-air cinema.
Kalemegdan
Let’s continue our green adventure in the most famous park in the city: Kalemegdan. This historical and cultural complex is one of the most visited in the country, thanks to its tremendous dynamism and flexibility, which is shown in the quality of its music performances, its plays and its medieval architecture. Moreover, Kalemegdan is a scenario where one can witness the locals’ daily routines: young lovers holding hands, pensioners drinking coffee, groups of professional chess players and children running among wild animals in the zoo, are few examples of the countless activities locals do in the park.
If you like getting to know some of the history of the places you visit, you should know that the famous Kalemegdan hosts the famous Belgrade Fortress, which won’t fail to impress you with its undeniable beauty. It is located on the top of a hill from which you’ll see the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. Its privileged position attracted the Romans, who erected this fortress as a large military camp in ancient times, while marking the starting point of Belgrade.
Topčider
Finally, folks in love with arts and history will love Topčider, which is a charming cultural park adorned with several sculptures and interesting monuments, such as the stone obelisk built in honor of Prince Miloš in 1859, one of the first public monuments of the city. The famous Swiss doctor Archibald Reiss also has a beautiful bronze sculpture made by Marko Brežanin in 1931 to commemorate the life of this great man, who was a victim of the First World War. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn a little more about the history of Serbia in this charming park on Sundays, when guided tours in English are available.
