Bridge 25 de Abril

The Bridge 25 de Abril is one of the longest hanging bridges in the world and it´s located in a bay of the Atlantic Ocean, on the coast of Portugal, by the city of Lisbon. The bridge unites this city (north) with other districts in the south of the country: Almada.

It´s known internationally for its length: 1013 metres and its construction is amazing. It has two masts which elevate the bridge 90 metres above the level of the river Tajo, each of which measure 190 metres and are the ones that hold the bridge.
When it was built in 1960 it was called Salazar Bridge, because he was who ordered it to be built but, after the Revolution of the 25th of April 1974, the people and the Portuguese democracy changed its name.
To keep it and restore it continuously a toll is charged to every car that crosses it. It´s less than two euros that the citizens pay happily and the tourists also collaborate.

 

 

The bridge is marvelous and with it being so big it attracts all the tourists so, if you find yourself in the city, get Lisbon accommodation get a car and go out and drive on the bridge from north to south. As well, you´ll get to know other regions of the beautiful country that is Portugal.
