King Louis XIV ordered to build that Palace of Versailles as a “country house” to be able to distance himself from the great Paris and be relaxed in his mansion with whoever he wanted. Above all, they were young ladies who accompanied him and stayed with him walking around the gardens of the great castle.
In 1692 it was finished building, 31 years after it started, and the King tried to install himself there permanently and take the court towards that region of France. But what he achieved was that the whole royalty felt happy to live in such a big building and to have such freedom (they said it because of the large gardens and parks that the castle has).
Some of the most famous people that lived in the palace are: Mary Antoinette who was the wife of Louis XVI and queen of France; the Marquis of La Fayette; Louis XIV; Louis XVI, his wife and children.
But what tourists who visit the place like the most is its grandiloquence. The Mirror Gallery is famous around the world and today we can appreciate it just like it was in the 18th century. In its 63 metres of length, the whole gallery is dedicted to highlight that economic, political and artistic success of France with works of art by different artists.
The Hameau de la reine (Queen´s hamlet) is another of the most visited areas by foreigners who come to see. It´s the country house that Marie Antoinette ordered to build for her. There she rested and spent her days taking care of her garden that ended up being so big that it supplied the whole castle´s kitchen.
André Le Nôtre was the gardener that did the design and maintenance of the enormous gardens of Versailles. That´s why it´s famous around the world and its beautiful parks are enjoyed every day by millions of people from around the world.
