The Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona, better known as the CCCB, is situated close to the district of El Raval it´s one of the museums adjacent to the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (MACBA). The building is a combination of old and new styles because it was built in the 18th century but was renovated recently.
The museum is one of the most visited in Barcelona and it´s in charge of displaying temporary exhibits that relate to cinema, concerts, festivals or different cultural events. It opened in 1994 as an urban development centre and was founded by both the Ayuntamiento de Barcelona (City Council) and the Diputación de Barcelona (Deputation of Barcelona) but shortly after they converted it into a museum.
The original idea of the museum was that the exhibitions that took place in it provoked a change in thought to the visitors and for this reason they usually are related to social topics such as immigration, frontiers and Apartheid among others. The CCCB also possesses a library in its galleries and rooms where conferences and seminars take place as well as a place where music concerts can be performed.
The CCCB is one of the most important culture-related places in the city. You can rent apartments in Barcelona and visit this interesting museum.
