The Smashing Pumpkins in Berlin

Billy Corgan and his men come back together on this tour to present their latest work, Oceania, which is the ninth album from this band of alternative rock. Although this album had to be released in September, the launch was postponed to early 2012 (date tbc). This is a continuation of the Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, a conceptual album of 44 songs that the group has returned to its roots and psychedelic influences.

The Smashing Pumpkins is an American band, which is quite difficult to classify, because they have influences from grunge, gothic, psychedelic rock, and in their later albums also electronics.

Its origin dates back to 1988 in Chicago to coincide with the grunge boom, and when they gave their first concert. In the beginning their music was heavily influenced by bands like The Cure New Order. Its founder Billy Corgan (guitar and vocals). The initial members were James Iha on guitar, D´arcy Wretzky on bass and Jimmy Chamberlin on the drums. Currently, the band also features keyboards and from the original members we can only see its founder, Billy Corgan, who besides being the singer, is the writer and composer of most conceptual issues and the architect of the group. Always worked to try to give some halo subversive to the band.

Gish was their first studio album in 1991, with this album they were the opening band for Jane´s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Guns N ´Roses.

The Smashing Pumpkins broke into the mainstream music with their second album, Siamese Dream (1993). With their third album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995) sold over 9 million albums in the U.S. only, and the band became one of the most acclaimed, successful and best-reviewed musicals of the 90´s.

There are many members who have passed through this band, and it seems that the rifts and scandals have always accompanied them. This led to the disintegration of the group in 2000. A true curse has always accompanied the group. At a concert in Dublin in 1996, while playing one of thjeir most famous songs “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”, a 17-year-old died crushed by the crowd. Several members have had problems with alcohol, heroin and narcotics. Also in 1996 one of its members died of heroin overdose.

The group has gone through several stages and music has changed a lot of aesthetics. With their album Adore brought to market in 1998, adopted electronic trends and dark aesthetics. What some of their fans did not forgive. In 2007, seven years after their dissolution, Billy Corgan and his men, with ever-changing members, returned to get on the stage. And now, 4 years after the load again.
