The football culture in Brazil

Brazil has always been a country with a great football culture. If you combine all the beauty of Brazil with two football competitions that are going to be played there within a period of 12 months, you get a mouthwatering result. During the summer 2013, the Samba country will host the ConfederationsCup, which is just and appetizer before the big dish called the WorldCup2014 that will transform all Brazil in a great party place for an entire month.

The Confederations Cup

The Confederations Cup is a tournament that welcomes the best teams from each continent, a mini world cup of only eight teams: Brazil, Spain, Italy, Uruguay, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria and Tahiti. The tournament will be held in six different cities: São Paulo, Recife, Fortaleza, Salvador, Brasilia and, of course, Rio de Janeiro, where the final match will be hosted at the most iconic stadium in the world, Estádio do Maracanã. Do you need a better excuse to visit a city as amazing as Rio de Janeiro?

Rio de Janeiro

Rio has it all: beaches, sun, good food and culture. Places like the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, the Christ the Redeemer or the Sugarloaf Mountain, make Rio a great holiday destination to visit. In addition, Brazilian cuisine is exquisite and a visit to the neighborhood of Santa Teresa and its traditional restaurants shouldn’t be missed by anyone. The city itself is a postcard and the cheerful atmosphere in Rio de Janeiro extends throughout the year, which is one of the reasons for which the famous Rio Carnival is one of the most important events anywhere in the world.

Beyond football and Rio

You could also stay in the comfort of one of our holiday apartments outside Rio de Janeiro if you fancy discovering a little bit more of this beautiful country. Salvador, for example, is a historic city of such beauty that UNESCO named it as a World Heritage Site. Its houses painted with vivid colors spread joy to its streets, while creating the perfect scenario to discover the true Brazilian culture in a place where you’ll be able to enjoy great music: the samba. Salvador is the match Brazil vs. Italy will take place.

Fortaleza is a colonial city and one of the largest in the country. This is a city full of museums, parks, markets and sunny places where you’ll be able to chill with a good caipirinha. On the beaches you can also go surfing and play volleyball, which is one of the most favorite sports in the city. Also, here you can enjoy off-season carnival at Fortal, which will be held in late July. Fortaleza is a perfect blend of modern and traditional Brazil.

In the south of Brazil we’ll find the beautiful city of Florianopolis. Although its name may sound a little too exotic, this is where you’ll find some of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil. This is a place away from the big cities, where you can relax by visiting its most important monuments, including the cathedral, the famous Hercílo Luz Bridge or the lake. Florianópolis is located on a small island and it is full of markets and fortress, built to protect the city from Spanish invasions. From here you’ll get to Curitiba in 3 hours or Porto Alegre in 5 hours. Florianópolis is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the best Brazilian beaches.
