Fortuny Museum

The Fortuny Museum carries the name of the great Spanish artist Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo because he lived in that palace that was converted into a museum. Mariano Fortuny lived in Venice since he was 18 until he died in 1949. He was a complete artists and dedicated himself not only to painting and sculpture but also to textile art, theatre and photography.
Previously, the palace belonged to the Pesaro family but Fortuny bought it to create there his art workshop to be able to express himself freely and to have an appropiate place to work. That´s how in that same place, he sets the stage for all of his works.
After the death of the artist, his house and works couldn´t just be archived for all of eternity so his widow, Mrs. Henriette, gave the palace together with all its works to the Italian State and to the city of Venice.
What´s valued the most in the museum is the book collection and the other study materials that demonstrate how Fortuny investigated to create his works in the most perfect of ways.
