The Gran Theatre of Liceo is a symbol of the city of Barcelona because on its stage the most recognised artists in the world have performed and because since its creation it hasn´t stopped captivating the public with its architecture, its acoustics and it´s magical charm when the music is playing.
Built in 1838, in its begginings the Liceo was used as a school of art where they taught theatre, singing and Italian music. Presently the building is public and the whole public can enjoy the performances that they play in it, or participate in the contests that take place or assist to the school of Petit Liceu to take opera lessons.
As an emblem of the city, the Liceo suffered attacks and incidents that nearly destroyed it entirely. Like when in 1861 there was a fire or in 1893 an anarchist caused a bomb explosion on the stage.
But the main attractive that the Liceo preserves is its always exquisite cultural suggestions, offering every season an improved offer for the spectators. Visiting the Liceo, feeling inside of it, being part of the universal history of opera and the thrill of the music is priceless.
