The Joan Miró Foundation is a museum in Barcelona and, as you can imagine by its name, it exhibits some of the most important works Miró created throughout his life. But this is not the only thing the museum exhibits as there are more than 10,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings and sketches of different exceptional authors in its galleries.
Its construction began in 1972 and the foundation was finally established in June 1975. The architect who designed the minimalist building was Josep Lluís Sert, who was a close friend of Miró. As he himself explained it has got such a shape because Sert designed it to create it from an open space with lots of greenery and nature around so that visitors will not only tour the museum galleries but also enjoy inside.
Each of the spaces at the Miró Foundation was organized so that the different facets of the artist can be enjoyed. In one of these spaces you can see paintings, in another the tapestries, sculptures or ceramics.
One of the most interesting places in the Foundation is a space called Espai 13, which was especially created to observe the works of new and promising young artists is that the place used to expose samples by other artists or even by Miró, but about topics that the foundation chooses to submit.
No doubt that if you want to visit one of the places containing the most important works in Spain the Fundacio Miro is a perfect museum, rent apartments in Barcelona and don’t miss this good opportunity.
