Adolf Eichmann at the Topography of Terror

German Lieutenant Colonel Adolf Eichmann (1906-1962) was the direct responsible for the labeled by himself The Final Solution (to the Jew problem), word that the Nazi systematic extermination plan was known for the Jewish population during the second world war. Eichmann himself took personal concern with a painstakingly terrifying efficiency of the transportations of the Jews to the extermination and concentration camps. Since his execution in Israel in 1961 his figure has been one of the most complex and controversial  of all the Nazi murderers due to the amazing simplicity of his personality, at least in appearance. That is the opinion expressed in the well known book by Hannah Arednt Eichmann in Jerusalem, a study of evils banality. Arednt was astonished with Eichmann pusillanimous intellectuality and that a man with such a low capability of thought could have been one of history´s prevalent mass murderers. This along with the reiterative insistence from Eichmann that he was a government employee that only obeyed orders, took the philosopher to elaborate a theory that the acts of Eichmann could have been due to the power of coercion and subjugation which any citizen can be a victim of in a regime of totalitarianism. Arendt was not the only one to point out that one of the most perturbing aspects of Eichmann, is that far from being a monster he was a simple human being and as so he was like the rest of us, capable of committing the worst atrocities feeling at the same time that all he was doing was obeying orders without any kind of measurement of feelings or personal hostility; Precisely...

Well, it has not earned the fame and good reputation in vain, one of the first things that stands out is that the city of Leipzig is turned into a great Gothic city during the three-day festival. Robyn’s Pure Pop in Berlin

Robin Miriam Carlsson, or Robyn as she is better known, is one of Sweden´s most famous singers. She shot to star status with smash hits such as “Show Me Love” and “Do You Know (What It Takes),” along with her debut release “Robyn Is Here.” And after more than a decade of making music, she released trilogy, “Body Talk” in 2010. Much of Robyn´s success is down to her unique sound – a vibrant combination of pop music and quality dance-electro, peppered with echoes of the 80s, and hip hop beats. It´s music that doesn´t take itself too seriously, and avoids all the tired old cliches of mainstream pop. Robyn´s music career came up against some obstacles, and after considering quitting the industry for good, she parted ways with her label. It would turn out to be one of the best decisions of her life, after “Robyn” which she produced under her own label, Konichiwa Records, taking a riskier, less-commercial route, not only reached number one in Sweden, but saw her catapulted to the world stage of pop. In triology “Body Talk,” Robyn recreates that amazing musical energy that makes her the queen of intelligent pop. With collaborations with Snoop Dogg, the brilliant Royksopp, she strikes the perfect balance between the best of American hip hop, and Swedish dance music. On the 12th March, she´s playing a concert at Berlin´s Astra Kulturhaus – which means a guaranteed party. For more information about the concert: http://www.songkick.com/concerts/7215001-robyn-at-astra-kulturhaus   Heloise Battista Don´t miss out on the party of the year – rent apartments in Berlin and enjoy Robyn´s hits.   Translated...

Tribute to Sigmar Polke

The Akademie der Kunst in Berlin opened a fantastic exhibition presents some of the most iconic designs of artist Sigmar Polke Jan. 14. Klaus Staeck, a close friend of Polke, pays tribute to more than 40 years of creative friendship between him and one of the most important German painters in this personal exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. Staeck was not only editor and gallery owner of the famous painter, but also a creative partner. Now 90 large-format drawings are presented us, which Polke devised during more than 40 year of career before his death in 2010. He died prematurely at the early age of 69; one of the most international artists from Germany, which emphasized not only for its bold criticism, but also for his elegant sense of humor. Polke was born in northern Germany; he was a multifaceted artist who worked outside the traditional aesthetic parameters and academics. In the 60´s he became known as one of the founders of “Capitalist Realism”. With humor and critical distance watching our reality marked by a rapacious capitalism. The architect detected with insight empty political slogans and the dark temptations that lay in the depths of repression and bourgeois society. Without doubt, Polke was becouse of this one of the most interesting German artists, as he was able to bring out the ethical contradictions in our postmodern society. Else Lasker-Schüler’s art in Berlin

Else Lasker-Schüler was not only a great poet, but also a wonderful illustrator. Now the Hamburger Bahnhof museum in Berlin pays tribute to this amazing artist, especially focusing on her work as a draftswoman. Opened on January 21, 2011, the exhibition was designed in collaboration with the Frankfurt am Main Jewish Museum and will be open until May 1 of that year. And the thing is that the relationship Else Lasker-Schüler had with the German capital was always close. It was there where she published her first Expressionists poems in 1899, and where in 1903 she married the writer Georg Lewin, director of the legendary magazine “Der Sturm”, which began to be published since 1910. In her drawings you can clearly perceive the influence of Jugendstil, Expressionism, Futurism and Dada trends. But especially, artists such as Franz Marc, founder of the Blue Rider and close friend of Lasker-Schuler and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, German Expressionist proponent of excellence. The exhibition will also have an interesting catalog that includes all the existing works of the artist, as well as some reports on it. And the thing is that even today, Else Lasker-Schüler is known as a prolific poet, but, in turn, has been completely excluded from the canon of art history. Therefore, this large retrospective at the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin serves as the institutional consecration of a forgotten artist, who, however, provided interesting painting proposals to the art world. We encourage you to travel to the German capital early this year, and though whispers say that the city loses its charm in the cold months, here we propose you to...

Night of Museums in Berlin, January 29th, 2011

Many cities have picked up the idea of the Long Night of Museums. It is a cultural event where museums throughout one city are open until late at night with the idea of introducing a broader range of people to art and culture. The first Night of Museums took place in Berlin in 1997. It was extremely well received by the public. Since then the number of participating institutions grew significantly from 12 to 125 and many other cities throughout Europe and the world have adopted this concept. On January 29th 2011 the 28th Lange Nacht der Museen will take place in Berlin. The organizers had the idea to introduce the event under the theme “health”, “Körper trifft Seele” (Body meets Soul) to be exact. In addition to the exhibitions, many of the institutions will offer different guided tours under this theme but also musical and literary programs. From 18h until 2h in the morning you will be able to visit over 100 museums throughout the entire city. The opening of the Night of the Museums will take place in the heart of Berlin at the Kulturforum, close to Potsdamer Platz. Christmas Ball 2010 in Berlin

Do you have plans for the holidays this year? If so, you can change them, because if your destination is not Berlin, you´ll regret it for the rest of your days. No, I´m not kidding, the Christmas Ball, a festival that has already been carried out successfully in other cities in Germany arrives in Berlin and has an unbeatable lineup! The festival will be headlined by none other than Fields of the Nephilim, a band led by the “master of gothic rock,” and “Guru of Darkness”, Carl McCoy. This year we were lucky to see him on tour in several European countries, and his concerts showed that his 25-year career has only strengthened and refined his musical skills.  If you missed the tour, now is your chance to see him. Enter a different world and get caught up in an atmosphere that few bands can manufacture. The second headliner is another luminary we’ve been looking forward to mentioning, German group Project Pitchfork. They are known for there e-industrial sound, led by Peter Spiller is a band that examines philosophical issues of great substance and depth, accompanied by the best electronic beats. Thirdly, Laibach, pillars of the industrial genre. It´s pretty hard to talk about the music of Laibach, because they have covered so much musical ground over the course of there career.  The best thing to do is see them live at the Christmas Ball. Last but not least, is a band that lends pure spark to the dance floor, Agonoize.  Know for playing the newest incarnation of German industrial sound, they will finish up the night along with...
