The Opera House of Budapest is famous not only for the theatre itself but, also, for the history of the building and its participation in the big events of the world. Its architecture of neo-renaissance style has Italian influence and the building has a capacity of 1200 people.
Its construction began in 1875 and in 1884, more precisely on September 27th, the great Hungarian National opera opened its doors to the public. By then it was the most modern construction in Europe.
On the ceiling of the theatre we can find nine muses that were painted by Bertalan Székely, in one of the restorations that they did in the place. On the other hand, the fresco of the dome was painted by Károly Lotz and the work is called Olimpo. They´re all works worthy of admiring which form part of the Hungarian Cultural Heritage.
