Movie theaters reinvented. Pillow Cinema and Hot Tub Cinema are new movie theater concepts. Imagine a huge room filled with pillows, or an outdoor terrace full of hot tubs in the warmer months of the year. They’re no doubt the perfect plan for lounging around, or soaking in a tub with your love interest or with friends. There’s just no wrong way to enjoy the seventh art.
Everything is reinvented in times of crisis, and movie theaters are no exception. It was long overdue, but London recognized the appeal of Pillow and Hot Tub Cinemas right on time. We have jumped off to London on our Only-apartments map, to visit these two intriguing venues.
Pillow Cinema
These pillows will be your best ally. What it lacks in seats and 3D glasses, this London cinema more than makes up for in pillows. I can’t think of a cozier way to watch a movie, you’ll practically feel at home. But the Pillow Cinema concept goes beyond movie watching. While your eyes are fixed on the silver screen, a whole crew of waiters will make your wishes their command. And here’s a warning: sometimes the party ends in a huge pillow fight, or with other activities, like dancing, or karaoke. You won’t be bored, that’s for sure. The venue is the former Shoreditch Tube station, and its slogan is “No Pillow No Entry”. Ticket prices are calculated on account of the number of pillows you’ll be taking up, and not per guest. Advance tickets are 15 pounds, and 20 when bought at Pillow Cinema’s door, on 7 Code Street.
Hot Tub Cinema
Nothing beats watching a movie and soaking up with your besties, and that simultaneously. It’s a truly different experience. ¿Can you envision watching a movie in the best company from the comfort of a hot tub, relaxing against the massage jets? And until recently we could only do it at home, but this cinema has changed that for us. It’s pure magic. To give you a bit of an idea how the space is distributed, there are 30 hot tubs that fit a maximum of 6 people each. And it goes without saying, you are also welcome to rent a tub for two, for the sake of romanticism. Which makes the perfect gift if traveling to London. And I can guarantee you’ll be treated like a king. Should you need anything during the movie, you’ll have only to request it, as a whole squad of waiters will cater to your every whim. To leave you with good food for thought, the incentive to open Hot Tub Cinema evolved from a private party in a hot tub, and more specifically from late-night drunk talk between friends.
Theaters such as these, have understood how to transform and modernize the concept of cinephilia, and are sprouting up all over London. They have reinvented themselves, to adapt to changing times. But in all truth, I can’t think of a better way to end the week than from a hot tub, watching a good movie.
