Pinacoteca di Brera

The Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan has one of the most important art collections presented in Milan, which can be enjoyed in the Palazzo di Brera. The building, which was property of the Jesuits from 1572, suffered an important remodelation that was done by Maria Richini which lasted one year until 1628. But, subsequently, when the Jesuits dispersed in 1973, the place was left as an astronomic observatory and bookshop that they had founded.

 

After passing through various directors, the place became what it is today, one of the most important art galleries with the largest amount of works of art in the whole city.

 

One of the most important works, and first ones that the gallery acquired that you can enjoy, is a work by Raphael Sposalizio where you can see the wedding of the Virgin. But there are also other works by important artists like Pietro Benvenuti, Vincenzo Camuccini, Canova, Thorvaldsen and the archeologist Ennio Quirino Visconti.
