Powder Tower

The Powder Tower is one of the biggest tourist attractions and it´s so beautiful that one can´t stop looking at it. Gothic style and built in the 15th century, this tower is one of the city´s most famous.

 

It´s located in the old town and it was a city gate in the Middle Ages, that´s why it´s so ostentatious. It measures around 65 metres high and, together with the other great tower of the old town, they are the structures that still stand from the fortress that protected the city in past centuries.

 

The names of this tower changed with time. At one time it was called “New Tower” to differentiate it from the other one that was built a century earlier. After, they used it as a depot for powder and, from the 18th century, it´s had that name.
