The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, popularly known around the world as The Guggenheim, is a famous museum located on the east side of Manhattan, in the city of New York, and it possesses an up to date and important collection of impressionist, post-impressionist and modern art which makes it into one of the most important places in the city for those who love contemporary art.
The building, very modernist, was designed by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright and it´s one of the most important architectonic constructions from the 20th century. The Guggenheim opened its doors on Ocotber 21st 1959 and it was the second museum that the Solomon R. Guggenheim foundation opened.
Guided by its German counselor Hilla Rebay, Solomon Guggenheim began to collect works of art in 1929 and, at the beginning, he began to hang them and keep them in his apartment until he realised that with the whole collection he had he could open a museum. For that reason, Rebay and Guggenheim opened a foundation with the intention of promoting the education in what art refers to.
