Toy Museum in Lisbon

The Toy Museum or ´Museo do Brinquedo´ in Portuguese, is located in the building that belonged to an old fire station in the town of Sintra.

Its creator is a fervent lover of toys and has been from an early age. At the age of 11 he began to collect them and completed an important collection that took over an important part of his life and his house.

The collection began to attract visitors to his house during his adult life and, due to this, he created a foundation with the name of the collector: Arbués Moreira and, further forward, the Sintra Council used the old fire station as a building to house the toys.

Four floors hold Mr. Moreira´s collection. On the first floor there are toys from the 3rd and 2nd century BC, 17th and 19th century, Lehman House toys, Bing, Penny toys and novelty toys. On the second floor there are carts, motorbikes, tricycle soldiers and planes of famous Portuguese and international brands.

The last two floors of the museum are made up by a restoring workshop and a whole floor of dolls, doll houses, domestic appliances and Barbie dolls.
