Vondelpark in Amsterdam has been open to the public since the end of the 19th century, when the local aristocracies had the fortunate idea of giving part of their lands for the use and enjoyment of the whole population. Today, after successive reforms and new constructions, it´s the most popular green area of the Dutch capital, and it has over ten million visitors a year. And it´s not strange because in it´s close to 100 acres of land, it combines the normal recreational areas in a public park (you can´t miss the shores of the lake, in the photograph, on sunny days) with authentic centres dedicated to different cultural fields.
Ideal to visit with children on sunny Spring days or in hot Summer days, Vondelpark is also a small open air museum with sculptures by important 20th century artists, such as Pablo Picasso. It also has an open air theatre, a centre dedicated to film and crafts markets every Sunday. The big day at Vondelpark is April 30th, dedicated to the Queen, with special events for the whole family. So, you know, to relax, as well as apartments in Amsterdam you have this enormous well-taken-care-of park, located in the West part of the city.
