Alessandro Dari Jeweler

When Florence began to shine on the international stage, around about the 14th century, it surrounded itself with a cohort of foreign and local artistsof all types. The city adorned itself with impressive palaces, religious temples, squares decorated with sculptural fountains, big parks and according engineering works. The great lords, at the same time that they decorated their houses with paintings and sumptuous pieces of furniture, had clothes and jewelry designed for them, which matched such lavish decorations.

From that century-old tradition comes the part of the crafts which is still present today in the City of the Arno. The creators of shoes or leather items still live together with the jewelers, who still apply their ancestral techniques to their creations. This is not chain production, it´s Art with a capital A. They make personalized designs for large pieces, but also for the other more modest ones which are affordable for everyone.

One of these traditional jewelers is Alessandro Dori, who locates his workshop and shop on via San Niccolò, together with his other work colleagues. It´s worth it just to see his window on the way from your apartments in Florence and, if you´re also lucky enough to buy anything, this is where you have to do so.
