Begijnhofkapel

Begijnhofkapel is a fantastic monastery and church in the city of Amsterdam that houses mystery and a lovely story in its walls. Located in a beautiful district in the city of the canals, the houses that housed the nuns were all the same and Gothic-style, although they suffered modifications with the passing of time.

Everything began in the 14th century. At that time, the oldest house in the city was house number 34 and in its chapel there´s the story of the Amsterdam Miracle which is detailed in fine painted panels.

In 1171 the first nuns gathered and formed the Begonias association that ended in 1871 when the last one died. The population of nuns grew so much that they became an example of faith and belieft.

The houses of the nuns can be visited today and really inspire peace and tranquility.

The miracle of Amsterdam is about a host wafer that the nuns gave to an ill man. The man vomited and they threw the fluid to the fire and, suddenly, everyone saw how the host wafer floated in the air above the house fire.

From then, there´s a mystery surrounding these nuns, the monastery, the church, the chapel and the beautiful houses of the nuns.
