Shopping in Amsterdam

Main Shopping Areas:

 

• 9 Streets

The “9 straatjes” is the name for a fun area of small, authentic and friendly streets that are located between “Raadhuisstraat” and “Leidsestraat”. Here you will find vintage shops, alternative fashion boutiques and many other shops that represent a particular specialty.

 

• P.C. Hooftstraat and “Oud Zuid”

The P.C. Hooftstraat is located in the Museum quarter neighborhood and is the place for high end designer labels as Chanel, Gucci, Hermés and Louis Vuitton.

If you are among those who can afford to shop in this street, you will also love to shop in the “Oud Zuid” area, this is one of Amsterdam´s nicest residential area´s and you will be able to find chiq boutiques for men, women´s and kid´s and elegant gift shops.

 

• Nieuwedijk/Kalverstraat

These two streets are connected to each other making it into a kilometers long street full of stores where you can shop for hours It is the place to shop till you drop. All major clothing stores as Zara and H&M are to be found here.

• Albert Cuyp Market

This 260 stands market stretching down the Albert Cuypmarkt is the most popular outdoor market in the Netherlands, having a laid back typical Amsterdam atmosphere.

 

• Flower Market

The flower market on the “Singel” offers a colorful set of shops offering all kinds of fresh flowers every day coming from the countryside.

 

Department stores and Malls:

 

• Magna Plaza

The Magna plaza is a mall with collection of stores ranging from Mango to Sissy Boy.

 

• Bijenkorf

The Bijenkorf is finest and most exclusive department store in the Netherlands. It is located on the famous Dam Square. The Bijenkorf has six floors full of luxury products.

 

• Kalvertoren

On the Kalverstraat, the Kalvertoren shopping mall is home to 45 shops.

 

Book Shops:

For bookworms, Amsterdam is heaven. You can find unique bookshops that offer an amazing selection of books from every time and every corner of the world. Most of these bookshops can be found at and around the “Spuiplein”. The biggest bookshop called “Scheltema” has four floors and offers book that are mostly in English, you can find this bookshop at “Koningsplein 20”

 

Antiques:

In the area called “Spiegelkwartier” you can find a great number of antique shops and art galleries.

This area is to be found around the “Spiegelgracht and “Nieuwe Spiegelstraat”.

 

Sex Shops:

A concentration of sex shops can be found in the Red Light Districts. Here you will find really everything you can think of related to sex. From the newest and most original vibrators to sexy outfits, movies, sex toys and other attributes you did not even know it existed!
