Artsevilla

‘Sevilla tiene un color especial’ (Seville is a special color) as the song goes… but nothing has ever been said about its shape. This year, contemporary artists from the city and from all over Spain have decided to give the Andalusian capital a modern, avant-garde edge, giving birth to the I International Contemporary Art Trade Fair: ARTS/artsevilla. As its name indicates, ARTS is a groundbreaking fair organizing visits, tours, symposiums and recreational activities for all its visitors. And all this from October 15th to 18th, at Seville’s Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones, Fibes.

Specifically, these four days will bring together over 200 national and international artists, as well as 36 art galleries from all over Spain and other European countries. Emerging artists, curators, photographers, professors and collectors, as well as students of art history, fine arts, philosophy, architecture, and journalism… will all be welcome to take part in the eight lectures and ten roundtables covering topics like the problems collectors face in times of crisis, the latest industry drifts and trends, and the real functioning of contemporary art.

If you think the limited space of ARTS is not enough of a reason to visit Seville, know that there will be other activities running parallel to the fair. Do you fancy tasting some of the most typical Sevillian dishes? If so, GastroARTS will be right up your alley; as throughout the entire month of October Seville’s best bars and restaurants will each serve a special tapa to commemorate the event… one can only imagine how creative it’s going to get! In addition, photography and painting contests will be organized throughout the city, open to everyone and with a very special prize up for grabs: the winner will get to exhibit their work at Haurie Gallery, one of the main art galleries in the Andalusian capital.

If you prefer film to photography, there will also be something for you with the screening of a documentary about the relationship between painter Guillermo Oyágüez and actress Aida Folch, as well as other video productions. But, with tickets as affordable as these and Seville apartments to die for, who would ever miss out on this event?
