Berlin is famous for its light festivals which are part of the Christmas atmosphere and which transform the autumn cold into a warm moment to spend under the spell of the flickering of its lights. Hence that the Berliners go to the streets to see its city, enjoying it at nightfall, despite the cold, when different points of the city light up, highlighting the wonderful historical buildings and every tree where the lights shine.
So beautiful is the city in this time of year that many tourism companies have created ´Christmas Light Tours´ for amateur photographers where they take them around lit-up Christmas Berlin to capture and feel the magic of the most picturesque sites in the city and feel the Christmas spirit. Another close-by place which fills up with light and attracts Berliners and tourists alike is the Alexanderplatz Market, a classic in any tour around Berlin for being a traditional Christmas market which shines like a diamond in the city night.
The Opera Palace and the National Opera of Berlin offer one of the most outstanding panoramas at Christmas with their lighting which highlights its architectonic attributes.
Another of the must-see places for its striking grandeur with the Christmas lights is the famous Brandenburg Gate, the most famous landmark in the city which shaped for years the border between East and West Berlin, becoming a Berlin icon.
At the other side there are all the government buildings with the famous Reichstag and the new Parliament buildings, which rise with light. All of these places are starting points for those who like to see the city with the charm of Christmas lights, just like the modern Potsdamer Platz with the Sony Center.
But if we talk about beauty and lights, the Charlottenburg Palace is the place that nobody can miss to walk around at the time before Christmas Eve, and admire its impressive lighting which shines towards the lovely Christmas market with its old crafts, high gastronomy and the numerous events in the square in front of said Palace.
Not everything that glitters is gold says the proverb, but I can assure you that if you rent apartments in Berlin to see how the city shines lit up coming up to Christmas, you´ll see that all of that is worth more than gold, and even better if you take a Christmas Light tour which will leave you with pleasant memories.
