Venice is a dream city unique in the world and, as well as presenting one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world where you´ll be able to do different and fun activities like go in a gondola, it has plenty of museums rich in art.
The Merletto Museum is one of them, which is located in the Gothic-style palace that, at first, used to be a school in the city´s square.
The museum presents different fabrics, the majority of them laces, that were made throughout the years with a technique that, currently, has been lost with the passing of time. There are laces that were made by nuns from the different Venetian convents in medieval times during the 16th century.
After the Industrial Revolution, this type of art faded into disuse but it was saved from extinction because they created, in 1872, the school for learning how to make these laces. By the 19th century there were five thousand experts in the subject but because the use of these laces went out of fashion, the factory had to close and today, this type of art is exhibited in the Merletto Museum.
