The streets of Beijing are full of food vendors, who sell the most unusual foods at very cheap prices. For less than a euro, it is possible to eat in one of the thousands of stalls you’ll find in your way. Real Chinese food has little to do with what we eat in any Chinese restaurant in Spain and the rest of Europe. There you won’t find fried rice or sweet and sour chicken. Donghuamen Market Donghuamen night market is a safe place to come and eat; there are only licensed vendors working here. There you will find all kinds of seafood and fish, but also all kinds of bugs including scorpions, spiders and grasshoppers. Here it is also possible to taste cat meat (cooked like chicken), camel paw, hedgehogs, lizards, turtles and really cute seahorses and starfishes. The 2008 Olympic Village Heading east Beijing, about 20 kilometers from the city center, you’ll find the 2008 Olympic Village, which is full of curious restaurants. One of the most famous dishes here is the donkey meat (including the tail, ribs, etc …). Donkey meat is low in fat and is always high demanded there. There are also restaurants selling dry lizards or monkey meat. There are also restaurants specialized in the ancient Chinese dynasties favorite food. Private gardens are accessed through long corridors. There you’ll be able to try the famous “Imperial Dinner”, as well as shark fin and sea cucumber, which is a Chinese delicacy often served with mushrooms. Wangfujing Market Wangfujing Market is the perfect place to find glazed fruits, scorpions, spiders and starfish. Tourists often buy them,...

If we had to choose a pop-dream representative band, we wouldn’t hesitate in choosing the American band Beach House. The members of this well-known duo are Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally. Victoria is responsible for the voice and keyboards and Alex plays the guitar. Formed in 2004, their self-titled debut album, Beach House, was released in 2006 through Carpark Records and immediately became a huge success among both, the critics and those who later became their fans. With their original style, this American duo was able to captivate indie music fans. Their second album; Devotion, which was also released through Carpark Records in 2008, reached even more success than their debut album. In 2010, their third album Teen Dream was released on Sub Pop Records. This album led them to a great rise that we all have witnessed. Their fourth album, Bloom, was released in 2012 through Sub Pop Records, with which they are currently on a world tour that will take them to Barcelona. Beach house plays dream pop music, which is a style famous for having slow rhythms and original lyrics. Victoria Legrand´s voice has been compared to the unforgettable Nico’s voice. Comparisons aside, her voice is simply great. By listening to Beach house’s music we can easily perceive the influence of This Mortal Coil, Big Star, Galaxie 500, Brian Wilson, The Zombies, Neil Young and Françoise Hardy among many others. Undoubtedly the charismatic voice of Victoria Legrand, accompanied with the keyboards and guitars, is a musical experience that no one can resist. The Baltimore’s band will perform a live concert on the 13th of March...
According to a 2012 report of the most expensive countries in the world, of the 425 cities surveyed, Beijing occupies position 22. There are 13 positions less than in 2011, while it still is “only” at position 35. The reasons for this increase in the cost of living in the Chinese capital are many, but we will not go into details. Rather we will tell you how to “survive” with 10 things you can do without spending a single euro . 1. Tiananmen Square The first thing is to visit the world´s largest square, Tiananmen Square. There are 440,000 square feet of space, it can fit 1 million people. Tiananmen Square became history for it is where Mao Zedong proclaimed, in 1949 the founding of the PRC, and is also where, on June 4, 1989, the famous Tiananmen Square protests ended in slaughter . 2. The Mausoleum of Mao Zedong While you´re in Tiananmen Square, the second free thing to do is visit the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong , which is located just on the south side of the square. The Mausoleum was built after the death of Mao in 1976, inside the embalmed body of the former leader of the Chinese Communist Party is preserved. 3. Qianmen Street Now for the third free activity, visit the pedestrian street with over 570 years of history: Qianmen Street. The street measures 840 meters long and 21 meters wide, the buildings that border resemble the style of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The street is like an outdoor museum. Qianmen Street is south of Tiananmen Square. 4. Houhai The...
If you’re planning a visit to Istanbul, make sure you set aside a day to tour the Prince’s Islands. Far from the bustle of the hectic city life, the Prince’s Islands offer a unique glimpse into the past, complete with carriage tours on carless roads. Once a place of exile, the islands are now a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. While only four of the nine islands are accessible to the public, they are absolutely worth a day trip, as the experience is truly unforgettable. The first thing you’ll notice on arrival is the pervading silence. Motor vehicles are not allowed on the island, so the only sounds you’ll hear are horses’ hooves, carriage wheels and bicycle bells. A visit to the islands is like taking a step back in time, as you’ll find yourself passing stretches of ancient Victorian cottages and swathes of untouched forestland. Getting There Obviously, getting out to the islands takes a little doing. Fortunately though, there are regular ferries operated by IDO. You can either take a regular ferry, or if you’re in a hurry, hop on a “sea bus” to get there and back quickly. The regular ferries sail out from Kabatas at regular intervals. The trip can take nearly two hours if the ferry stops at all of the islands. The sea buses are somewhat faster, and the full trip can be completed in under an hour. These fast ferries also depart from Kabatas. Just be aware that the ferry timetables change according to season, so make sure you get a current schedule before setting out on your day trip....
Budapest has a unique appeal that distinguishes it from other cities in central Europe. Of course, this is partly due to the beautiful Danube River which crosses the city and lends the Hungarian capital connotations of elegance, romance and tradition. One would need a lot of space to write about all the stories, songs and myths involving this famous river. Since it can get quite cold in Budapest in the winter, parts of the river may even freeze. If you’re lucky, the city might be transformed into a snow-white streetscape or just receive a light dusting, which makes it an even more fantastic to explore, discover and take pictures. Budapest also has the distinction of being a relatively flat city. This means you can walk from one end to the other without the slightest inconvenience or getting fatigued. Of course, the city’s subway and public transport system is also very efficient. However, if you prefer to walk, this city’s structure makes that possible. Just make sure you’ve dressed properly for cold weather. Normafa The areas around Budapest also provide a lot of options for those interested in snow, skiing and hiking. Both locals and visitors come out to Normafa mountain near Budapest when it has snowed. It’s easy and safe to reach this mountain using public transport. Whether using skis, sleds, or special shoes for hiking in snow, you´ll love going up and down this mountain. And the scenery around is beautiful and romantic. Visegrád Visegrád is another important location near Budapest. This area is frequented by many students when school is in session, and it offers visitors a...

Skating around the clock Skating in Amsterdam is always nice and it’s an activity that´s fun for both young and old. And its even more fun is you can do it on the frozen canals in winter. This city’s tradition of skating on the canals goes back to the seventh century. And it’s very idyllic to experience when it is actually cold enough to make it possible. The Dutch also enjoy skating in the summer months (although they do it on the asphalt), and they have a “Friday Night Skate”, which is a race that starts in Vondelpark. Dutch...
