Oost-Indisch Huis or, in English, “East Indian House” is a beautiful and large building in the city of Amsterdam that´s located in the centre which is visited my thousands of tourists from around the world.
The construction dates from the 17th century and it was the home to various important commercial institutions of the time like the “Dutch East Indian Company”. But because the original building was getting too small, they extended it many times until it looked like it does today.
After the Company dissolved, around 1798, the building became part of the Government of the time and was occupied by the governors. In 1976 the building had it´s last restoration and remodelation.
Today it works as the University of Amsterdam and it´s part of the national Dutch monuments. That´s why it´s a place that no foreigner can miss. With its interior patio and its thousands of windows, it´s a beautiful place to rest from the walking, breathe some fresh air and admire the sky.
