Charlottenburg Palace, located in the district with the same name, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, is one of the most beautiful in Berlin. Baroque-style, the great castle was the residency of various royal generations and it suffered modifications and expansions according to the taste of its owners.
The castle rose in the 17th century by order of Sophie Charlotte, wife of the then Duke Friedrich III. Subsequently it was the Kings of Prussia who, after the death of Sophie, King Friedrich I named the palace Charlottenburg in his wife´s honour.
Charlottenburg Palace has a theatre that was important in the history of German art and literature. There, since 1795, various works of Lessing and Goethe take place.
But what tourists appreciate the most are its perfectly designed and attended gardens, where they all like to spend a nice summer´s afternoon.+
Despite that during the Second World War its structure was severely damaged, the palace is restored frequently to keep itself standing like the cultural work that it is.
Today, the palace works as a museum and can be visited daily by tourists and art and architecture fans. To get to know it, rent apartments in Berlin and feel like the King of Prussia.
