The Stibbert Museum, located on via Frederick Stibbert, owes its existance to Fredrick Stibbert himself (1838-1906), a man of arms and the millionaire son of an English father and an Italian mother, born in Florence.
He dedicated most of his life to create the first collection to later form, on Montughi hill, a museum who he then donated to the city of Florence posthumously.
Today, the museum is managed by a foundation that inherited his fortune to administer it.
The museum has close to 36,000 items in the inventory. There are armors, weapons and objects related to that theme. There are also costumes, paintings, tapestries, furniture and art objects that document the history and techniques of the production of many of the objects in the collection.
Together with the museum, Stibbert hired the architect Giuseppe Poggi to design a beautiful park in the most pure English style. You and your children will be able to see it and enter into the waterfalls and small caves. The park is open to the public from 8am until 7pm.
The museum is open from Monday to Wednesday from 10am till 2pm and from Friday to Sunday from 10am till 6pm.
So, there you go, if you thought about renting apartments in Florence to spend a few days with your family, come to the Stibbert Museum.
