Via de´ Tornabuoni is one of the most famous streets in Florence because it crosses the city and it connects the Piazza degli Atinori with the Piazza della Trinità.
The name of the via (street in Italian) comes from the surname of a very famous family in Florence in the 15th century, the Tornabuoni. They lived on this same street and they still have a beautiful house there, one of the oldest in the city.
The importance of this family stood in the political actions and in their economic influence towards the different markets. Two important personalities of the family were Lucrezia Tornabuoni who was a lover of literature and Giovanna degli Albizi who was the wife of a Tornabuoni and was known for her magnificent celestial beauty. The wedding of these took place in the great cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in 1486 and, from that moment on, started to be a part of the political family from Florence.
But the important thing of this street of Florence isn´t as much its history as its everything that one can buy if they visit the Via de´ Tornabuoni.
