Begijnhofkapel

Begijnhofkapel is a fantastic monastery and church in the city of Amsterdam that houses mystery and a lovely story in its walls. Located in a beautiful district in the city of the canals, the houses that housed the nuns were all the same and Gothic-style, although they suffered modifications with the passing of time.   Everything began in the 14th century. At that time, the oldest house in the city was house number 34 and in its chapel there´s the story of the Amsterdam Miracle which is detailed in fine painted panels.   In 1171 the first nuns gathered and formed the Begonias association that ended in 1871 when the last one died. The population of nuns grew so much that they became an example of faith and belieft.   The houses of the nuns can be visited today and really inspire peace and tranquility.   The miracle of Amsterdam is about a host wafer that the nuns gave to an ill man. The man vomited and they threw the fluid to the fire and, suddenly, everyone saw how the host wafer floated in the air above the house fire.   From then, there´s a mystery surrounding these nuns, the monastery, the church, the chapel and the beautiful houses of the nuns.   Rent apartments in Amsterdam and don´t miss out on this wonderful...

Houseboat Museum

Houseboat Museum is a very original museum in the city of Amsterdam. It´s a floating boat that shows how people live “in the water”. In Amsterdam, with there being so many canals, people live on boats and that fascinates tourists.   Vincent van Loon saw that and decided to create a museum on the boathouses. He lives on a houseboat and every time that he looked out of his door, people came to ask him questions regarding how he lived, how do the water and electric supply work, what happened with the sewage waters, with cold and humidity, etc. And after replying to these questions time after time, he decided to start a museum that talked about this.   This was how in 1996 he opened, for the first time, his Houseboat Museum. The boat is called “Hendrika Maria” and it´s anchored on the Prinsengracht, bordering the famous Jordaan and it´s also very close to other interest points in the city.   The very same Vincent van Loon was who built the museum and who was in charge that everything was clear to foreigners.   Rent apartments in Amsterdam and don´t miss out on visiting this incredible and new museum in the...

In de Waag – “The Weigh House”

De Waag or, in English, “The Weigh House” is an incredible monument in the city of Amsterdam that leaves all the foreigners who visit it with their mouth open. The first stone of the construction was laid in 1488 and there´s a plaque that commemorates it, and so, this building is a city relic.   At that time it used to be part of one of the city´s three gates but, when the city expanded, this function became obsolete and from the 17th century it´s worked as a weighing house. They opened some windows in the building to give it more luminosity and they used to weigh all types of of products there, and the different guilds occupied the place and each had their own space. The blacksmiths on one side, the doctors on the other and so forth.   In the 19th century, the guilds dissolved and the house didn´t have a use once more. They thought of demolishing it but, luckily, this didn´t happen and from that moment it´s used as a home to important people.   Afterwards it was a museum and today it works as a very beautiful restaurant, in de Waag, which remodeled and repaired the whole house so that it´s nice for the tourists.   If you rent apartments in Amsterdam you´ll have the possibility of getting to know all the city and see the best...
