Alexanderplatz is a famous square in Berlin, located in the centre, which has always been used as a meeting and commercial point in the city.
It used to be called “Ox Market” and there buying and selling livestock used to take place.
In 1805, Alexander of Russia visited the city and they gave it the name by which it´s known today in his honor: Alexanderplatz, “Alexander Square” in English, although the locals call it just “Alex”.
It was dramatically attacked during the Second World War and it suffered many damaged and everything had to be recontructed, which is way all the buildings and the surrounding area maintain a post-war style.
Neuralgic centre of the city, this square greets and says farewell to the visiting passengers, and it´s surrounded by thousands of important buildings in Berlin, the World Clock being one of them, which is a famous artifact that turns continuously and that indicates the time in every part of the world.
One of the jewels of the square is its bunker which is built underneath it. It´s believed that it´s the biggest bunker in Berlin which was built during Nazi Germany. It was discovered by chance by some sewage system workers.
It´s a square worthy of seeing that all tourist should get to know to be able to say that they were in the city.
And for that, rent apartments in Berlin and go out and see its magical and punished streets.
