The reputed art gallery owner Juana de Aizpuru opened her art gallery in her home city, Seville, in 1970. Spain, then, was waking up to a recently discovered modernity at the same time that it became international. Quickly, trusting her good critical eye, at the same time that she moved the installations to a more central part of the Andalucian capital, de Aizpuru moved to Madrid. From her two locations and during these four long decades, in this famous gallery not only have they exhibited every single name that´s someone in Spanish art (like the photographer Alberto García Alix) but it has also gone international and, today, the artists of the gallery come from around the whole world, from the Japanese artist Yasumasa Morimura to the Austrian Franz West, whose colourful sculptures flood contemporary art centres around the world.
Although there are travellers who don´t enjoy visiting art galleries due to considering them a leisure activity that´s not very noble, it´s a very gratifying experience. If you can´t take any of the exhibited works to your apartments in Madrid you can always have them in your mind along with the good time you had enjoying emerging art. And, relax, the staff there don´t bother you.
