With a neo-romanesque style, the architect that designed the place was Franz Schwechten and he never imagined that his work would be famous around the world today. In the interior of the church there are various mosaics, windows and paintings that represent the life and work of the emperor Wilhelm I, who ordered the construction in his honour.
During the Second World War, the Lutheran church was bombarded and partially destroyed. Sadly, some of its towers collapsed but the ruins have been preserved as a famous monument of the city.
In 1951 a restoration began which was going to complement the old and classical part of the church with a modern style. That´s how, in 1961, a new Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church was born, where the styles melt together and make one only structure with glass and stone parts together.
To visit this church, rent apartments in Berlin and enjoy the city and its famous monuments.
