The 2014 Bread & Butter in Berlin

In English, the expression “bread and butter” means something very simple, something to which one is accustomed to do. And the tradeshow Bread & Butter is anticipating big things in Berlin this year, where it will celebrate its 10th edition. As an exhibition of urban and contemporary fashion, Bread & Butter brings the best brands from around the world, and the brands are the stars of this event. More than 600 exhibitors from the worlds of fashion, fashion denim, sports, street fashion, workwear and smart casual fashions will exhibit their works for three days, from July 8 – 10. Once again, the venue will be the former Tempelhof Airport, which is now abandoned and used as a park, the setting for big concerts and as an exhibition hall that hosts major international events like B & B. Bread & Butter was founded in 2001 and is celebrated twice a year, in January and August. It started in Cologne with great success but moved to the German capital, Berlin, in 2003. As a representation of our ever-changing world, the show was held in Barcelona in 2005, and then was alternated between the two cities until July 2007 when it stayed in Barcelona. In January 2009, Bread & Butter returned to Berlin, where it has remained to date. In these thirteen years of existence, the brands that have populated the stands of the fair present new and different proposals each time, so you won’t feel like you’ve seen it before. As the organizers say, Bread & Butter “realizes the concept of an innovative trade fair event for contemporary clothing culture.” Here you’ll find the latest...

The importance of having Internet in your apartment

Although it seems that vacations are meant to disconnect people from their current surroundings , the reality is that few people have this opportunity 100% of the time. Rather than simply wanting the  internet, many travelers, today, often NEED the internet during their vacations. But what is “many travelers?” Here you have the numbers. At Only-apartments, we have counted the number of clicks that are obtained through each filter on our website: The result is respresented in the following graph and demonstrates the importance of having internet in your apartment. As you see, of all the clicks that we receive through filtering, 25% is responsible for internet. Therefore, if you do not have internet, it is very possible that your apartment is automatically disregarded. Due to seasonality, terraces and air conditioning have also been highly sought after. This data has been taken from all the searches done in the months of March and April 2014, when travellers are searching for apartments for summer vacation.    ...

Literary Pubs in London

If writers in olden times met in taverns to chat and exchange ideas and opinions, it’s now their legacy that remains in these establishments. Some parts of the history of literature have been forged in the pubs we are going to tell you about, and many are located in London. With something for everyone, we’ll start our “Route of Books and Drinks” in the British capital. If we want to talk about literature in connection with London pubs, we must, of course, discuss the Cheshire Cheese. With its dark lighting, wooden interior and low ceilings, it’s definitely worth visiting. Built in 1666, it was frequented by the “cursed poets” and the Rhymers Club, including Ernest Dowson and Lionel Johnson (who is said to have died there after falling off a stool). And, of course, Oscar Wilde and Charles Dickens are also said to have been seen there on occasion. What secrets do the tables and chairs guard? The only way to find out is to visit. In Northumberland Street you’ll find the Sherlock Holmes pub, which, as you might imagine, has been designed and decorated in the style of a detective novel. On the first floor there is a replica of the room where Dr. Watson kept his books and bottles. And among the many things that will inspire you on this Sherlock Holmes path is a portrait of the author overlooking one of the rooms of this curious London venue. Then there’s the Fitzroy Tavern (16 Charlotte Street), where Dylan Thomas used to get drunk and write poetry on the coasters. Other literary greats that passed through include...

Kigo and Only-apartments' event in Venice

On the 16th May, Kigo and Only-apartments held an even at the “Maxi Mozart” conference room at the Hotel Amadeus in Venice, which was a complete success.     The event’s focus was on how Kigo and Only-apartments could help owners, property managers and agents in Italy grow their business and better manage their property portfolio. Kigo presented their complete platform and demonstrated how they are a key element to save time, stay organised and cost effectively manage a vacation rental business through automation.   Kigo is a company offering an effective property management system that allows owners and rental companies to manage calendars, reservations and automate every aspect of their vacation rental business. Through their channel manager, they broaden the possibilities of getting more bookings through their partners such as Only Apartments. App of the Month: Groopic

Of all the apps that we have tested over the last few months, today’s is definitely one of the best and maybe even the best. Want to know why it’s no longer necessary to be left out of photos? Keep reading. How many times have you wanted to take a photograph while traveling but didn’t simply because someone has to take the photo? You come home and ask yourself, “But where are you in the pictures?”  One option that many people employ is the “selfie,” a photo that you take yourself with your face in the foreground taking up most of the picture and leaving little room to see what´s behind you, which is what you actually want to see. The selfie has become very popular lately, not only due to Ellen DeGeneres at the Oscars but thanks to sites like Instagram. But let’s be honest, a selfie is not usually a good picture. However, let’s get back to our topic at hand. Groopic is a fantastic app for the following reason. If you´re with somebody and you want to have a picture of the both of you without resorting to taking a selfie or asking someone to do it for you (and without the embarrassment of a language barrier or fear that someone might run off with your camera or mobile), you can now use Groopic to photograph everyone. How? It’s easy. One of you shoots the other person or persons and then the photographer trades places with someone to position him or herself next to the others (not in the same spot). Then, Groopic superimposes the two...

Berlin from A to Z – Part II

N – Neukölln. One of the emerging areas of the city, this is where you can find a mix of student life and art as well as the decline this neighborhood suffered after the fall of the Wall. Neukölln is definitely the coolest place in Berlin right now. O – Olympiastadion. The Olympic Stadium, which is located on the outskirts of the city, maintains its imposing structure and is characteristic of Nazi architecture. Built for the 1936 Olympics, this is the place where Jesse Owens won four gold medals in front of Adolf Hitler. Today the field is primarily used for soccer matches and is home to Hertha Berlin. P – Potsdamer Platz. Destroyed in World War II , today Potsdamer Platz is once again one of the city’s hubs, as it was in the 20s and 30s. Featuring high and ultra-modern glass buildings, it is one of major intersections in Berlin and contains one of the oldest traffic lights. There are also remains of the Wall there. It’s well worth a visit. Q – Qdamm. Kurfürstendamm is a shopping street that’s shortened to KuDamm or, even shorter, Qdamm. This avenue lined with trees is full of shops, restaurants and hotels, so it’s perfect for a day of shopping and eating, with its dozens of restaurants of different cuisines. R – Reichstag. The seat of the German Parliament, the Reichstag is the building that symbolizes German executive power. It was built in the late 19th century in a neo-Renaissance style and was burned in the 30s by the Nazis and destroyed during World War II. Now rebuilt, it features...

Wimbledon

Known as The Championships, the Wimbledon Championships, or simply Wimbledon, it is one of the four Grand Slams of tennis season, alongside the Australian Open, Roland Garros and the U.S. Open. Of the four, there is no doubt that Wimbledon is the most prestigious, not only because it’s the oldest but because it is the most difficult of all. The grass of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club gives the game a speed that cannot be equaled on the clay of Paris or the fast surfaces of Melbourne or New York. By alphababy The first championship was held in 1877, and since then it has enjoyed unparalleled prestige in the world of sport. Everyone who has gone to Wimbledon agrees that the resort’s atmosphere is incomparable, an environment in which the true tradition of tennis thrives. This tradition has been carried to the grass, where both male and female players are required to wear pristine white clothing throughout the tournament. One thing that has changed in recent years is the main court, Centre Court, which due to the unpredictable British summer weather has undergone a metamorphosis with the addition of a retractable roof that can close completely in 8-10 minutes. This allows the game to continue even if it is raining, a problem that the tournament has experienced since its inception. There are three male players in history that have dominated Wimbledon. With 7 titles each, William Renshaw (Britain), Pete Sampras (United States) and Roger Federer (Switzerland) have been the reigned on the grass in their respective decades. Renshaw won six consecutive tournaments between 1861 and 1886,...
