Spring Baths in Budapest

Spring is a great time of year to take a break and relax in a nice resort. In Budapest water is a lifestyle. Hungarians go to these urban spas or baths to socialize and have a good time with friends while relaxing and chatting. And for visitors to the city, a trip to the thermal baths of Budapest is a must. One of the most important and possibly the most attractive of the city’s seaside resorts is Széchenyi. It is located just behind Heroes´ Square, a noble area where Budapest’s upper class once lived. Once inside, it will feel like you’re in a castle, but one from the early twentieth century. It has 3 outdoor swimming pools and 15 indoor, with a dozen saunas and two Turkish baths. And no matter what the weather, the Széchenyi Baths are always full of locals and tourists alike. It seems strange when you notice the many retirees who go there to play chess; they actually play while relaxing in the outdoor pools. They also have massage parlors and offer pedicures and waxing, at an additional cost of course. The entrance fee to the spa is about 15 euros for the full day (4,600 guilders) and 12 (3,800 guilders) for half a day. That’s a cheap way to spend a wonderful day soaking. The Király baths are also quite famous and quite beautiful. They are located within an old Ottoman-style building. Even just visiting the building makes a trip worthwhile. The building was built by the Turks back in 1565. If the last spa sounded large, this one’s even bigger, with more than...

Spectacular Urban Gardens

Few pleasures can be compared to walking through a garden full of flowers and scents in the shade. If we add the advantage of being but a few meters from the hustle and bustle of the city, the garden becomes an oasis and the pleasure is even greater, since we can escape the noise and pollution without having to travel very far. If this appeals to you, here are five urban gardens that you can immerse yourself in without ever leaving the city. By Shaun Merritt Chelsea Physic Garden – London Every year in the neighborhood of Chelsea, they hold the Chelsea Flower Show, an event focusing on flowers and plants where you can visit small, stunning gardens. And don’t worry if you aren’t lucky enough to be in London during the month of May. The Chelsea Physic Garden was founded in the 17th century and its name comes from the plants used to heal. Its plants, trees and flowers make this garden an oasis in the British capital, a place to walk or sit on a bench and rest amid great natural beauty. Jardins Majorelle – Marrakech Who knew that the desert could be home to a garden of such beauty! In the city of Marrakech, Morocco, this botanical garden has served as inspiration for artists of previous generations. You’ll find desert plants like cactus surrounded by ponds and palm trees. Property of the late couturier Yves Saint- Laurent, the Majorelle gardens are the perfect spot to come and escape the noise of the city center and the hubbub that occurs in the souks. Conservatory Garden – New York...

Spring in Barcelona

Knowing the best time to travel to a city can be the deciding factor between a successful trip and a complete disaster. One has to take into account not only the weather but also the influx of tourists, activities, etc. That´s why I’m going to tell you today about the best time of year to visit Barcelona. I bet if you ask any Barcelona native, everyone will tell you the same thing: spring. Why? Keep reading. There are several reasons why Barcelona shines in spring. Here’s a list: Warm but not hot Visiting a sunny city with temperatures above 30° C and walking everywhere can be an ordeal. Barcelona has many outdoor places to visit, but the sun can take away any desire to go on to the spot. In the spring, temperatures in Barcelona are mild, near 20 ° C, and the sun isn’t at its peak so it’s much more comfortable. Walking in the Parc Güell or along the Passeig de Gràcia at 30° C is much different than at a moderate 20° C. Of course, there might be an odd shower but nothing you cannot solve by stopping in at a cafe to wait it out with a good mel i mató or churros with hot chocolate. Less tourists Barcelona is one of the most important tourist centers of Europe, which means there’s an influx of people coming from all over to see this beautiful city. This can get uncomfortable—queues, crowds in the center and higher housing prices make summers in Barcelona more complicated for those with little patience. There are tourists in the spring as...

Interesting Metro Stations around the World

Underneath many cities one can find real treasures, from stations of another era to very modernist and colorful ones. The metro takes us on a journey. Just get a ticket, get aboard and begin the trip. Next stop: A ghost station in Madrid, a luxury metro in Russia, a colorful Taiwanese station and the painted caves of Stockholm. By Rubendene Ghost Station Chamberí (Madrid): If you take the Metro Line 1 and you pass between Bilbao and Iglesia, you will see that there is a dimly lit station that seems stuck in the previous century at which the train does not stop. It was created just a few meters from another station, which is why it was abandoned. It simply wasn’t worth taking the subway for such a short distance. It later became a squat for a few years. It’s almost like time stopped at the Chamberí station in 1966, which is when the last train stopped there. It will be a trip back in time as you take in the box office from half a century ago, the platforms, advertising and even the tickets and fees since opening in 1919. These cannot be compared with today’s prices, of course. It was ghost station for 4 decades until, in 2006, when it was converted and restored. It is now a museum of the Madrid Metro and visiting it is free of charge. Stations from another era in Russia: One of the best examples is Avtovo Station in St. Petersburg. This station, designed by Levinson and opened in 1955, is full of classic columns and a variety of luxurious elements,...

The 2014 Rock in Roma (A top 10 Festival)

The 2014 Rock in Roma festival arrives with fully charged batteries and a star-filled line-up with that includes bands like Metallica, the recidivist David Guetta and Prodigy to set the scene. A line-up this good can be the perfect excuse to visit Rome, whether you already know the call Eternal City or if you’ve not yet visited. Take note, the dates are from 3 June to 26 July. This “global” festival is held every year somewhere in the world with artists of various stripes and periods. For example, Rock in Rio Madrid (held in the town of Arganda del Rey) brought back the 70s when The Police took the stage, as the British band reunited exclusively for the occasion. It was a success. The appearance of Metallica is not quite the same (since the band is still together), but we’re still excited to see a band that has been a leader since the 80s and keeps on rockin’ on. Of course, they play to accommodate the conditions. To name but one example, their concert last year in Antarctica, for the privileged few, was done with headphones to avoid damaging the glaciers with the vibration of the amplifiers. Awesome, right? Well, now that Rome is playing host to the complete American band, their music will resound all the way to the Coliseum. Without headphones, Metallica promises to rock the Hippodrome (where Rock in Roma 2014 is celebrated), for veterans as well as new fans to their music. If you’re interested in joining them, don’t wait too long to buy tickets. Concerts are purchased separately, and tickets are between 35 and...

The kitchen that will captivate your guests

The terrace, views, location, decorations… these are many strong points of your apartment, however the kitchen remains, without a doubt, an important place. A well equipped kitchen will allow guests to save on costly dinners at restaurants and take full advantage of the apartment. We have interviewed Mario Bussi, who has dedicated his life to restoration. Today Mario is the proud owner of a loft in the birthplace of the Renaissance: Florence, Tuscany. Tell us something about you… How did you begin your experience with Only-Apartments? I was first approached by some friends of mine that had been working with Only- Apartments. They were the ones that were able to convince me. They thought that an apartment so particular as mine would have great success. And so it was… I am very happy with the result and above all the success I have had with people from around the world. We have seen that your apartment LOFT BOBOLI has a very interesting kitchen that seems to hide a particular history. Do you want to share with us? Of course, I would be happy to… it all began when I was a young man fascinated with the world of restoration. Little by little I began managing various restaurants in Italy, until I arrived in Florence. I fell in love with the city, stayed here and opened a restaurant in the city center. My life has always been in the kitchen; the restaurant was my home during the decades, a second home. And so when that chapter of my life closed, I decided to take a piece of my history and...

Barcelona – A City for Everyone

Choosing your next holiday destination is not easy. But let´s be honest, it’s a rather pleasurable ‘problem’ to have, and looking into all the different possibilities is not exactly an ordeal. We would like to recommend the city of Barcelona, a city for everyone. Whether traveling with your partner, friends or family and whether you’re into culture or partying, Barcelona has it all. Couples / Romance Barcelona is the perfect city for couples who want to spend a few days somewhere romantic but without the expenses of other romantic destinations like Paris or Venice. The Catalan capital has many places to take a romantic stroll along the beach, on the mountain of Montjuïc or in the old town. There are also many restaurants near the harbor where you can dine with views of the sea and the beach, enjoying exquisite dishes in an intimate atmosphere.   Friends Barcelona is most certainly one of Europe’s best party cities. Groups of friends from around the world travel to Barcelona to enjoy the nightlife, the many bars and clubs. And there’s something for everyone, from the sophisticated Shôko y Opium to classics like Sala Apollo or City Hall. And in the Eixample district there are many gay bars that would interest tourists searching for a city with LGBT scene. Drinking in Barcelona is cheap, and the good thing is you can sleep it off on the beach the next day. Fantastic! Family Taking your children when traveling is not a problem in Barcelona. For starters, many of the city streets are pedestrian-only so you don’t have to worry about cars as much....
