But it´s not famous only for its present but also for its history. It was there where the first traffic light in Europe was placed. During the Second World War it was bombarded and nearly destroyed entirely. Later, with the construction of the Berlin Wall, it was in the middle of the frontier line and it wasn´t “used” by any of the two Berlins.
That way, it deteriorated even further and when Germany re-united after the falling of the Wall, only remains of the square were left. But the Berliners, who felt a great love for Potsdamer Platz because it was a commercial and cultural centre in the past, reconstructed it in less than ten years and today it occupies that social place again, although with a completely different and modern architecture.
