If you´re ín Barcelona during the first Sunday in March, you have to go to the Plaza Sant Jaume and, there, early in the morning, you will see classic cars appear one after the other. These cars are classic ones, 1920s cars that have been restored, 1930s cars with a new coat of paint, covered vehicles and convertibles and relics from the past that leave the museums (quite literally) to drive for a few hours down the Catalan coast to the town of Sitges.
The parade could not be more spectacular, because the contestants (who arrive from around Spain and Europe) are dressed with clothes from the same times as the car, so they don´t stand out. This impressive and artistic route (we´re talking about a work of art here) has been taking place uninterruptedly since 1959 (and the cars were already classics!) as an initiative to boost tourism in this little part of the world during the winter months.
The success, unsurprisingly, was such (both among spectators and participants) that, today, this excellent race keeps the freshness from back then. If you´re staying in the Catalan capital during the first Sunday of the month, you can´t miss this race, wherever your apartments in Barcelona may be.
