The TriBeCa Film Festival was born in 2002 as a cultural response to the attacks on the Twin Towers. Its creators, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal, had the idea to make this festival an invigorating mechanism against depression and the fear that affected the community of lower Manhattan and New York, specifically the TriBeCa neighborhood.

The aim of the Festival is to allow New Yorkers and national and international film communities to enjoy and understand during several days the importance of film in society.
