La Mercè festival is drawing to a close in Barcelona, but don’t anybody leave town yet! A Catalan and international culinary festival awaits you at Barcelona’s Fira de Montjuïc, from Thursday September 24th, until Sunday September 27th: namely the 5th edition of Barcelona Degusta. Barcelona Degusta aims to be suitable for all types of audiences (families, small artisans, large companies in the food industry, cooks, and food lovers from all over the world) and that is the reason behind its varied agenda, as well as its differently themed sections and activities.
Assorted Flavors
What products can one find at the exhibit? The answer is an endless assortment, and as you stroll through it you’ll see that each area has little to do with the next (making it even better, that way you are sure to find what you are looking for!). For starters, there will be sophisticated tastings of wine and other delicatessen like delicious cheeses, cured meats, and oils, with a focus, perhaps, on the professional sector. In line with the latest trends, you’ll find the popular food trucks in the Street Food area. There, you’ll be able to enjoy their typical fast food cuisine (Mexican, Chinese…) that abounds in many of Barcelona’s restaurants, but with a vintage touch to give it that contemporary spin that draws in young audiences nowadays.
Another theme of the Barcelona Degusta 2015 is that of local foods, or the produce typical of a particular region, often associated to a given designation of origin. If you like to feel like you belong, the Paisajes area might just be your thing. That is also where you’ll find solidarity and km 0 products, and even produce from urban gardens.
This year’s edition of the festival includes BCN&CAKE, the 4th international creative confectionary fair, which will also make it possible to taste sweet treats such as pies, sugar flowers, decorated cookies… and not only that, but the planning also includes workshops and activities to learn how to model chocolate, and even how to take pictures of sweets!
To end with, let’s not forget drinks! The so-called Degusta Beer Festival will bring a beer bar serving craft beers from all over the world, from well-known local brands to imported brews.
Fun Times Guaranteed
Not having an appetite is no excuse for not visiting this exhibit. The Fira de Montjuïc will also display culinary publications and modern kitchen utensils; as well as organize workshops for children or showcookings featuring celebrities like Carme Ruscalleda, Fermí Puig or Christian Escribà. You can buy your tickets for the event and activities here. Enjoy your meal!
