New York is one of those cities that need to be visited at least once in a lifetime, because it’s a unique megalopolis that doesn’t fail to leave first-timers speechless. And it will also leave you with your eyes turned skyward, as you admire the greatness of its dazzling lights and skyscrapers.
You’d need months to really explore the city, but if this is your first time and you want to breathe in some of its atmosphere in just a few days, retrace our route through New York in three days.
What to See in New York in Three Days
Inaugurate the first of your three days in New York with a walk through Manhattan, the city’s best-known borough. You’ll recognize many famous places from movies and TV series.
Welcome to New York!
You can move around comfortably by subway to get to all of the city’s main attractions with ease. You can also walk, as the street arrangement is so straightforward that it’s practically impossible to get lost, even in a city as large as New York.
FIRST DAY
Start off the day with a walk through Central Park, the city’s large green lung. You can buy some bagels for an improvised picnic.
If you want to daydream in front of the shop windows of high-end fashion names, head over to the world-known Fifth Avenue and to the famous Tiffany & Co.
Although admittedly you don’t have too many days to experience New York, you can’t miss out on the Big Apple’s main museums: the MoMa, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the largest in the world), and the American Museum of Natural History. It’s hard to choose between them, but it’s the only way to give the one of your choice the time it deserves.
After your museum visit, head towards Wall Street and visit the emotive Ground Zero Memorial and its 9/11 museum.
In the evening, head over to the famous Rockefeller Center and climb all the way to the top, the 70th floor, where you’ll find the spectacular Top of the Rock lookout, from which you’ll have amazing 360° views over city.
And for diner, have a look at the best places to eat and drink in New York.
SECOND DAY
One of the things you can’t miss out on on your three day visit to New York is, without a doubt, the Statue of Liberty. Get a boat from Battery Park to Ellis Island, and then to the popular statue. You could well run into really long queues, so we do recommend you score yourself a City Pass to save time.
Little Italy and Chinatown are two icons of the Big Apple. It’s essential to wander through the streets of these neighborhoods, each with its own distinct characteristics. Perhaps they’re not quite as authentic as they used to be back in the day, but they’re still well worth exploring.
At night, let yourself get carried away by the joyful atmosphere at Times Square, the image we most often associate with New York, its skyscrapers, its theaters, its shops, and its bright neon lights.
But before that, and if you like high-octane thrills, soak in the views from the 80th floor of the Empire State Building. Don’t fret, there’s an elevator to take you to the top.
Who hasn’t ever heard of Broadway? Did you know that the uber-famous haven of musicals is right in the heart of the city near Times Square? In fact, the long avenue known as Broadway starts in Times Square, with its many theaters where you’ll be able to choose from a wide range of titles for all tastes.
THIRD DAY
The last day will probably be the saddest, because it’s almost time to go. But don’t despair because you still have some of the most fascinating and unique spots of your three days in New York left to discover.
How about a walk through one of the city’s symbols? We are talking about the Brooklyn Bridge, which joins Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Imposing and majestic. Crossing it from one end to the other with the wind in your face will give you a nice sense of freedom.
Once in Brooklyn, visit what has become New York’s trendiest neighborhood. It’s fascinating, multicultural, and it will surely seduce you with its dandy style.
Its shops, its art galleries, and its bars have turned it into one of the most popular boroughs for entertainment, and it’s particularly frequented by New Yorkers.
To end your third day, you can choose between spending the night in one of Brooklyn’s many trendy bars, or heading over to Manhattan to explore the nightlife in East Village.
Visiting New York in three days will be little more than a first tasting of this unique metropolis. And surely, you’ll soon be wanting to return. Again and again…
Find your apartment in New York in the area of your choice, and get ready to see one of the most amazing cities in the world.
