Beirut at the Rumsey Playfield in New York

Summerstage is a festival in New York founded in 1986 in the heart of Central Park, with the purpose of serving as a free public resource to help enrich the lives of New Yorkers. In 1990, City Parks Foundation launches free concerts in neighborhood parks throughout the city under the name of City Parks Concerts. That same year, Central Park Summerstage moved a hundred yards east of Naumberg Bandshell to Rumsey Playfield, for they needed more space to house people because of their success. In 1994, City Parks Foundation is officially in charge of the management of Summerstage, being awarded in 2003 by the Municipal Arts Society to help make New York a more livable city for its inhabitants. Year after year the Summerstage, a program of City Parks Foundation, presents performances of outstanding artistic quality, free of charge, to serve the diverse communities of New York City. Among the hundreds of concerts performed throughout the summer, we recommend the Beirut concert at Rumsey Playfield, on August 29 at 6 pm, while not free, the ticke price is interesting (from $ 32 ) Beirut is an American band that was formed in 2006. their music, which could qualify as alternative, combines elements of indie rock, folk of Eastern European and Mexican music. This is obvious in their first album Gulag Orkestar. In their latest album, The Rip Tide, in part, they become detached from the world music that had always characterized them, to create, from their own personality and freedom, a more reflective type of music, with many reminiscences of the past of its leader, Zach Condon . A Weekend in Prague with Children

Traveling families might not think ofPragueas a destination for children. This beautiful Bohemian city is known more for its impressive architectural heritage than as being suitable for young travelers. And while the most popular areas may tire out the littlest ones (but not youths and adolescents),Praguehas numerous sites that will please the whole family.     If you are traveling for just a few days, like a weekend getaway, you can intersperse seeing the old part of the city with visits to the city’s three green areas (not counting the slopes on the banks of the Vltava River). These are: the theme park devoted to dinosaurs (Dino Park), which needs no further discussion as children will be sure to want to visit it; the Botanical Garden, with educational and recreational activities for all; and the Vrtbovska Gardens. The green area and the palace are like something from fairy tales, and in addition to its extensive recreational and cultural programming, you can also organize a party however you want if your family is traveling toPrague to celebrate some event.   On the other hand, we must bear in mind that folklore in this part of the world is deeply rooted in everyday life. That is why you’ll also find street musicians and puppeteers that will delight both young and old all over the city. Marionette puppet theater (especially those representing witches and monsters) are part of the country’s cultural heritage. You can enjoy these free of charge (with a tip for artists), and there are also shops that sell these dolls, such as Loutky Marionetas.   While the Old Jewish... read more

Kimbra in concert a Rock en Seine

One of the most popular music events in Europe is the popular Rock en Seine event, which is a Rock ‘n Roll festival that lasts for two to three days. The festival was first held back in 2003 and it only lasted for a single day. The location for the event is the Chateau de Saint-Cloud’s park, which is located west of the city of Paris. The entire park and the particular garden where the festival is held was designed back in the 17th century by Le Notre. Interestingly enough, it was at this festival that the band Oasis split up back in 2009 after two members had a huge fight before headlining on the main stage at the event. Rock en Seine 2012 will mark the 10th anniversary of the beginning of this festival and the dates of this year’s event will be from Friday August 24, 2012 through Sunday August 26 2012. This year many great bands are included in the lineup for the event. Some of the new bands that have been announced as part of the lineup include the following: – Of Monsters and Men – Miike Snow – The Knux – The Waterboys – Billy Talent – Kimbra Kimbra is one of the acts that is being featured at Rock en Seine for the first time this year (scheduled for Aug 26). Kimbra is the name used by Kimbra Lee Johnson, a singer-songwriter and guitarist from New Zealand. The style of her music is a soul and jazz combination that for many is reminiscent of the late Amy Winehouse. Some of the influences for... read more
