A Day in Istanbul

A lifetime is not enough to see and enjoy all that Istanbul has to offer. There are many ways to experience this amazing city. And here we tell you all about our take on one such way… Eating Turkish eats are as enjoyable as the Whirling Dervish dances. Start off the day with a Turkish breakfast in any of the typical local establishments of Çelebi Oğlu Sokak. Breakfast is a rite in itself; take the time you need, converse, loose yourself in the flavors of simplicity. You will need many a cup of çay with your bread, menemen, olives, jams, cucumber slices, tomatoes and much, much more. And our favorite: kaymak. At noon you might be tempted to try baklava, and in the evening it will be time for pida, kanat or kokoreç. Seeing Use your eyes to discover the small and great wonders that abound around each corner. The city still harbors many well-kept secrets, protected from the masses of tourists. Watch its people. Istanbul’s best sight is the people that live there. The hands of its women are always well manicured; the lips of its men are perpetually ready to hold a cigarette during a game of tavla. Fruit takes on new colors, and pomegranates were never so red. Sunsets have never been as poetic as they are in Istanbul, and we can see you’ve already caught up with us: whenever you set your eyes on the horizon, there is always a mosque in sight. Shopping Istanbul is an endless marketplace. And we are not referring to the Grand Bazaar, which has been reduced to little more... read more

Alternative Plans to the Milan Expo

Milan is not just any city. The Italian capital of fashion is a glowing city with a well-defined personality, and now also host to one of the most international events, the 2015 EXPO. But Milan is a lot more than that, and here is proof. Are you ready to delve into the mysteries of this Italian city? Beyond the Duomo The Milan Cathedral is the city’s most emblematic monument, and not just because it was seen around the world when a small Duomo replica hit Silvio Berlusconi’s face in 2009. This impressive cathedral reigns sovereign at the very heart of the city, and from the panoramic terrace of its rooftop, one gets the feeling the world is at his feet. Don’t miss out on it! If after the mandatory visit to Milan Cathedral you start feeling hungry, we have just the thing: panzerotti Luini. A few steps away from the heart of Milan you’ll be able to taste this excellent Italian recipe consisting of flour dough stuffed with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and even ham and spinach. Panzerotti Luini are delicious and absolutely affordable! The epicenter of the fashion industry, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, Via della Spiga, Via Montenapoleone…, is also conveniently located right around Milan Cathedral. But if you can’t afford the prices, worry not. At Kilo Fascion you’ll find designer brands from previous seasons sold by weight! This peculiar outlet, located right by San Babila prices items by weight, independently of the brand name, and so bargains abound. All things said, be ready to make your way through piles of clothes in your search for treasure. If you don’t want... read more

Poetry Week in Barcelona. Discover Barcelona’s Most Poetic Side

On the week of May 12th through 18th, Barcelona swells up with poetry and thousands of activities, promoting and spreading the magic of the written and recited verse. But Barcelona is poetry all year long. The truth is that, throughout history, the Catalan capital has been home to many poets who made it their muse, giving it a bohemian and evocative air thick with rhymes that resonate in our memory to this day. The relationship between Barcelona and poetry is such a well-established one that it’s no surprise that the last few years have borne witness to the birth of myriad initiatives around this art form. Today we want to show you Barcelona’s most poetic side. A stroll through rhyme, rhythm and rhetoric that will surely win you over. Expendeduría Poética. Take Away Poetry What would it be like to take part in a poet’s creative process, being able to walk out with your very own poem? At Expendeduría Poética, typewriter wielding Poetógrafas Performáticas (something along the lines of Perfomantic Poetographesses), enact a happening and performance of sorts, in which the visitor becomes the main protagonist in the birthing of an art work that he can later take home in exchange for a small donation. Instant poetry, they call it. The idea here is as follows: one walks in and finds a number of English words to choose from. After picking 3, he stamps then on an official document which he then hands to Poetographess number 1. She, in turn, starts creating a poem around the chosen words. Next, the document is passed on to Poetographess number 2, who... read more
