Night of Museums in Berlin, January 29th, 2011

Many cities have picked up the idea of the Long Night of Museums. It is a cultural event where museums throughout one city are open until late at night with the idea of introducing a broader range of people to art and culture. The first Night of Museums took place in Berlin in 1997. It was extremely well received by the public. Since then the number of participating institutions grew significantly from 12 to 125 and many other cities throughout Europe and the world have adopted this concept. On January 29th 2011 the 28th Lange Nacht der Museen will take place in Berlin. The organizers had the idea to introduce the event under the theme “health”, “Körper trifft Seele” (Body meets Soul) to be exact. In addition to the exhibitions, many of the institutions will offer different guided tours under this theme but also musical and literary programs. From 18h until 2h in the morning you will be able to visit over 100 museums throughout the entire city. The opening of the Night of the Museums will take place in the heart of Berlin at the Kulturforum, close to Potsdamer Platz. A shuttle service will be available and here you will have the chance to get last minute information and tickets. The ticket sale has started on December 3, 2010 and the prices are 15€ (10€) which not only includes the museum entrance but also enables to use the shuttle service. Exhibition Chase the Dragon at Magda Danysz, Paris

The exhibition “Chase the Dragon” refers to that first experience with drugs and the growing obsession with them, that will take you to look for that sweet chill you felt that first time. A metaphor that also describes perfectly the addiction painting can be for an artist. When the creation moment becomes as addictive as the drug itself, and the artist, for a moment, gives the world a look inward, as the smoke cloud that traces a figure in the air, only to disappear immediately. And now Magda Danysz Gallery in Paris presents an exhibition that takes us into the eccentric and obsessive world of a diverse group of contemporary artists who will not leave you indifferent. Larry Clark’s images, film and photography legend, are an amazing visual impact, as well as filmmaker Gaspard Noe´s creative experiments, or Dada’s incredible pieces. And they all have in common their ability to thrill and make you feel the most intense emotions. On the other hand, the exhibition will also present emerging young artists such as Kulundzic Kosta, a painter who focuses his work around issues like faith and mysticism, and our society produces its own myths and heroes. We will also meet Axel Pahlavi, an Iranian painter who prompts the viewer with his harrowing and realistic gloomy pieces, pointing to the dichotomy between religious mythology and the decline of postmodern society. Mick Jagger exhibition in Milan

Since December 2nd the der Fondazione Forma per la Fotografia in Milan is presenting the exhibition „Mick Jagger. The Photobook.“ Not only with the idea to honor one of the biggest rock stars of all times but also an icon of our culture this exhibition documents the almost chameleon-like evolution of Jagger with over 70 portraits taken by some of the best photographers in the world. The past 40 years Jagger has left his footprints in rock history, inspired generations over generations all over the world as well as upcoming rock bands and the portraits exhibited at Fondazione Forma per la Fotografía are proof for his rock star status par excellence. In addition, this exhibition acts as a project to deliver an insight of 50 years of the history in portraits. Starting with portraits taken in the 60s by legendary photographers like Goodwin, Mankowitz and Périer to experiments by Cecil Beaton as well as more recent portraits by Annie Leibovitz, Karl Lagerfeld, Anton Corbijn and Peter Lindbergh. The viewer witnesses an important metamorphosis that has coined iconography in rock music since the birth of the Rolling Stones. This exhibition is not only interesting because it shows the incredible versatility of the legend Jagger but also it takes us on a journey to demonstrate the change in aesthetic paradigms in photography.
