The 2013 Barcelona Marathon
The Barcelona Marathon is one of the events that the city has reserved for the arrival of spring. Taking place since 1980, this event has become important Europe-wide and adds more participants seeking to set new records and, above all, to enjoy the fun atmosphere and camaraderie that reigns during the celebration. This year´s edition will take place on Sunday, March 17, and a total of 20,000 participants are expected. To register, one must be at least 18 years old, regardless of nationality, and do it up to 48 hours before the race. At8:30 amthe race of 42 kilometers, which are entirely urban, begins and runners must complete the course in a maximum of 6 hours. The current record, however, is well below that; the Kenyan Jackson Kotut won the 2010Marathonwith a time of 2 hours and 7 minutes. Pasta Party It has become a custom for the participants to gather on the day before the marathon to share a free meal that has pasta as the main ingredient. The idea is that this way the runners will have the nutrients needed for the race but also have a time to interact with each other. It will take place at the Sports Pavilion of the Expo from 12 to 4 pm. Points of Animation If you’re not a long distance runner and would prefer to observe theMarathonfrom afar, everything has been designed so that the viewers will enjoy the most from the event and there are many activities that take place in conjunction to the race. If we had to choose a pop-dream representative band, we wouldn’t hesitate in choosing the American band Beach House. The members of this well-known duo are Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally. Victoria is responsible for the voice and keyboards and Alex plays the guitar. Formed in 2004, their self-titled debut album, Beach House, was released in 2006 through Carpark Records and immediately became a huge success among both, the critics and those who later became their fans. With their original style, this American duo was able to captivate indie music fans. Their second album; Devotion, which was also released through Carpark Records in 2008, reached even more success than their debut album. In 2010, their third album Teen Dream was released on Sub Pop Records. This album led them to a great rise that we all have witnessed. Their fourth album, Bloom, was released in 2012 through Sub Pop Records, with which they are currently on a world tour that will take them to Barcelona. Beach house plays dream pop music, which is a style famous for having slow rhythms and original lyrics. Victoria Legrand´s voice has been compared to the unforgettable Nico’s voice. Comparisons aside, her voice is simply great. By listening to Beach house’s music we can easily perceive the influence of This Mortal Coil, Big Star, Galaxie 500, Brian Wilson, The Zombies, Neil Young and Françoise Hardy among many others. Undoubtedly the charismatic voice of Victoria Legrand, accompanied with the keyboards and guitars, is a musical experience that no one can resist. The Baltimore’s band will perform a live concert on the 13th of March... read moreKizil Adalar – Prince’s Islands in Istanbul
If you’re planning a visit to Istanbul, make sure you set aside a day to tour the Prince’s Islands. Far from the bustle of the hectic city life, the Prince’s Islands offer a unique glimpse into the past, complete with carriage tours on carless roads. Once a place of exile, the islands are now a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. While only four of the nine islands are accessible to the public, they are absolutely worth a day trip, as the experience is truly unforgettable. The first thing you’ll notice on arrival is the pervading silence. Motor vehicles are not allowed on the island, so the only sounds you’ll hear are horses’ hooves, carriage wheels and bicycle bells. A visit to the islands is like taking a step back in time, as you’ll find yourself passing stretches of ancient Victorian cottages and swathes of untouched forestland. Getting There Obviously, getting out to the islands takes a little doing. Fortunately though, there are regular ferries operated by IDO. You can either take a regular ferry, or if you’re in a hurry, hop on a “sea bus” to get there and back quickly. The regular ferries sail out from Kabatas at regular intervals. The trip can take nearly two hours if the ferry stops at all of the islands. The sea buses are somewhat faster, and the full trip can be completed in under an hour. These fast ferries also depart from Kabatas. Just be aware that the ferry timetables change according to season, so make sure you get a current schedule before setting out on your day trip.... read moreRANKINGS
