When there is a change of season, we often also change our habits in every way, including our clothes, shoes, accessories and even the colors we wear. When it comes to food, autumn offers new experiences for our taste sense; more intense flavors and delicious meals with a little more calories.   You’ll be able to try a wide range of local dishes during autumn. Latino Restaurants in Barcelona

One of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, Barcelona is also one of the most beautiful. Its Gothic Quarter, the beautiful Mediterranean beach and its many architectural gems make it a must-see destination for travelers inEurope. One of the advantages of being a cosmopolitan city is the great gastronomic diversity it offers thanks to its mix of cultures. InBarcelona, you can eat everything, absolutely everything, and it will be prepared well by people who know what they’re doing, by people who have living here for a number of years but haven’t lost the connection to their own cultures. You can find restaurants of all types, tastes and prices, including various types of Asian food and anything found to the East or West. And this is what I’m writing about today, since I’ve had the pleasure of trying a little bit of everything inBarcelona, especially the delicious Latin American food, including the cuisine of Peru, Argentina and Chile. Patio Latino The first of these delicious spots is the restaurant “Patio Latino”. It offers Peruvian food of the highest standard at very good prices. The restaurant is located in the neighborhood of Gracia, in one of the narrow streets typical of this charming neighborhood. It’s in theSan Agustí Street, and you need only walk from the diagonal to the neighborhood of Gracia to find it (very near Gran de Gracia on the right). In this small but cozy restaurant you can sample the famous dry beef or chicken in chili sauce, which are really the best in Barcelona. And of course, don’t forget to enjoy a pisco sour, which I...

Barcelona: City of ham

If there is a flavor that can remind you to visit Barcelona it is the flavor of ham. This preparation of pork leg so characteristic of the Iberian Peninsula is served in most restaurants and is part of several culinary preparations typical of the area. The ham is obtained by curing with salt pork leg and is usually done at high altitudes, where the air and low temperatures help the drying process. Pigs can be of different races, but the finest are the Iberian. The Iberian pig is fed with acorns, which give a special flavor to their meat and as a consequence to the ham. Its level of fat is something that makes it unique in the world. Do not confuse the pata negra ham with the famous Iberian ham, since pata negra is a type of ham that doesn’t describe the original race of the pig used. The famous Serrano ham doesn´t describe it either, as that is just the name given to a type of cut. The flavor and consistency of Iberian ham depends on four factors: the breed of pig, the breeding process, since the pig must walk in the mountains to have the proper musculature; wild food that will give the flavor and fat infiltration proper feeding and because the fat acorns makes curing occurs is distributed more evenly in the muscle fibers. To test the quality of the real ham we recommend the restaurant Cinco Jotas Las Arenas de Barcelona. It is a place with style and culinary where the specialty is ham. Among the activities that take place here is the Jam Hour, in...

There are drinks that have that scent of childhood that chase us our whole life. Horchata is one of them. It reminds us of those warm summer afternoons with the family with our mum giving us that elixir of freshness in the afternoon after playing. Because we want to make that search easy for you in Barcelona, here are some places that you´ll enjoy drinking horchata in this summer. Horchata is a white drink that´s drunk very cold and therefore is a summer classic. It´s prepared with tiger nuts, chufa, that they only grow in Valencia, where they arrived from northern Africa in the 8th century, a product of Islamic migrations. Obtaining the horchata is a process that has four stages: washing and soaking the chufa for 8h, crush and macerate, press it so that it lets go its extract and finally add sugar to it. With time and the scientific investigations that have taken place regarding the nutritional properties of the chufa, it turns out that it´s beneficial to have a glass of horchata every day because it´s high content of oleic acid helps bring down bad cholesterol levels and increases good cholesterol levels, preventing senile dementia and cardiovascular problems. Also, it has a hight content of Vitamin E, doesn´t contain gluten, is rich in minerals such as phosphorus, iron, magnesium, calcium and potassium, it´s low in sodium and it´s perfect for people with heart problems. For all of these reasons and those that connect us to the...

Vermouth in Barcelona

Vermouth is more than a drink in Catalonia. It’s an agreeable custom related to good food and a taste for relaxed conversation between friends. Vermouth means wormwood, which is herbal base of this drink, in addition to other tonic substances that make it pleasant and perfumed and the wine that makes it ideal for cocktails. Red vermouth contains more than forty herbal extracts, among which are flowers, roots and fruit. It is said that its formula is so secret that only four people know it and the actual recipe is stored in a bank safe in Geneva. To make it, the herbs are mixed in a container that is stirred twice a day for two weeks, then sugar and wine are added. Then it is left so that the flavors develop. The quality of the vermouth depends on the wine that is used. The best from abroad are in Italy, but the ones from Catalonia are equally good. It makes a wonderful aperitif for anyone who has a problem with weight, since they contain herbs that produce the sensation of satiety which can decrease appetite. “Going out for a glass of vermouth” was a Catalan custom which was widespread on Sunday at noon after mass ended. While the women prepared lunch, the men ate olives and some snacks while sipping vermouth and commenting on the day. And because of its sweet taste it was also the liquor women preferred for their cocktail hour. Over time the custom began to disappear, Sunday Masses were no longer a family activity and modern life has transformed many of the customs. Today, many...
